Only half of the reverse is grained and the bottom rim almost looks as if it were coated (which is my concern). I put it under 10x and 15x magnification and gave it a minor test with acetone (nothing)...still concerned but it looks legit. I've stared at it long enough. Thoughts?

It's kind of interesting to see one with just a portion having that woodgrain-look.

That's a nice, original coin...additionally, it's very well struck for a 25S. I'd call it EF-45/AU-50.

Thanks guys!

Thad...pretty stoked about the find (bag) I haven't seen this before (WG on 1 side only) it's usually through the entire planchet. It can't be common (I've searched thousands if not a million cents) and I can't remember seeing any like it. Love my WG's! Thanks again.

That's one heck of a find, fairly low mintage and MDS. Look around at some 25S's, they are usually pretty horrible with respect to die state.

Actually this is a nice problem free XF-45 1925-S Lincoln Cent (could be AU-53 IF it has at least 3/4 of the mint luster). I designate strike as follows: Weak, then Average, then Strong then SHARP and this 25-S is SHARP. People do not truly appreciate how scarce an rare some of these mintmarke 20s are with s SHARP strike and being void or nearly void of contact marks. Let me tell you it takes some work.

Nice woody. Very Sharp coin

What type value is added for the woodgrain look?

I got 20+ rolls of wheats and I found 3 woodies. 1939 and early 40`s woodies. Plus several more rolls to check.

Thanks for sharing

Depends on who's buying. I personally have been known to drop foolish money on a wood grain cent. I have friends that can't stand them though. All they want is red. I prefer "character" in my collection over red any day. I think I'm in the minority though, which is good!

Am I the only one that thinks this coin looks cleaned/scraped/rubbed/damaged on the bottom half of the reverse? The patina is different between the sections (maybe damage was done long ago) and those striations look artificial to me. Also the letters in "United States of America" seem to bear a lot of damage where the letters above in the "One Cent" section don't. To me it looks like someone put the reverse bottom half against a wire brush lightly and briefly and then tried to artificially add patina back (or let it re-age).

However, several resident experts have weighed in that it's genuine, and I'm just a simple caveman so I'll render my opinion and leave it at that.

The obverse is fantastic, by the way.

I was going to say..typically weakly struck but a hammer strike for a 25-S.

Love my WG's ! Glad to see my fellow members enjoy them too...I "wood" have to check but I know that my oldest woody is a 1920 something. I do have some that are just on top or bottom and I do see woodgrain near bottom of obverse. Very nice coin, as well as interesting ! Thank you for sharing.
