The 1854 is a somewhat scarce date in the No Motto Liberty Half Eagle series. This new purchase is slabbed by ICG. How do you think it grades?

ICG called it at AU-50. The reverse shows decent remaining luster in protected areas while the obverse has only a trace. A more conservative grade of EF-45 might have been the better choice.

Yes, DDO FS-101, as seen on about a third of recent sales of this date at Heritage. The doubled lobe of Liberty's ear creates the earring and an extra hair curl shows prominently on the edge of her cheek. These elements show a very wide spread; pretty cool!

AU50 sounds fair enough. ICG gets a bad rap much of the time, most coins in ICG holders are accurately graded IMHO.
