My father gave me this SEGS 1945 MS67 fB. He told me to sell it if I want,If I do sell it I would want it in a PCGS holder of course. I know it will not come back as a 67...im hoping a 65+ with FB designation. What do you guys think?  |

Do you have a picture of the reverse? That is the only way we can tell if your coin has the FB designation.

Waiting for photobucket to load...Its a little slow today.. Ive been checking the PCGS website and man this coin is sooo close.. I feel it will depend on how pcgs is feeling that day. I've also heard that since it is so rare they do give it to the ones that make it.  |

Really hoping so...this is a flip of the coin (pun intended) ...really really nice coin. Just need to get it into a PCGS holder.
Thanks everyone for the help. I will be going to work now and ill be checking in throughout the day. Hopefully someone can chime in some more.

I have no problem with MS-65 but in my opinion the middle bands are not fully split.

That it is very close.From one angle the line is fully separated. Then you look at it from the other side and it gas a little notch on the facet. Uhh ever so close. I checked some PCGS 1945s with FBs and some looked worse then this.

I don't think it should be full bands, but it's better struck than 99% of 1945 dimes and should carry some premium regardless.

Used to be you could send in an SEGS-holdered coin to PCGS and specify the minimum crossover grade you would accept; if it didn't make the grade they keep your money and return the coin in the original holder. I would call them and get an update on their current policy. I would NOT crack this coin out for resubmission since you would lose the "official" FB grade with no guarantee that PCGS would then assign FB when they grade it. I doubt very much they will award FB unless they are confident the coin fully meets their criteria.
You might still get a good price for it in the SEGS holder if your intention is to sell.

I am with Jaobler on this; send it in as a minimum crossover, if it does not merit the grade they will send it back as is. I would not shoot for the moon stating a minimum MS67. Others have mentioned MS65 (or lower), that would probably be pretty safe.
I don't think that PCGS would give it the FB though...oh so close! I have been wrong before. Keep us informed regardless.

I have one that is very similar to yours but raw. I was told by more than one person that because of the extreme rarity of 1945 split bands dimes PCGS is sometimes a bit lenient if it is "close enough." It resides comfortably in a blue Capital Plastics 1934 - 45 Mercury dime holder and I have no intention of sending it to PCGS.    |

Gyrene..I have heard that as well..so I'm hoping that's how they are feeling when I send it in...probably sometime this week if I can get out of work early enough

I'd risk the grading fee on it, regardless of grade. It's this >< close.

I say go for it, I would also keep it in the holder. To much to lose cracking it out..
