The "E" in the word "states", that's a nice error and should increase the value of it. Is it actually fake?

Wrong position for any of the know dies. Interested to know what other folk think regarding how it was made- added mint mark, altered 's', two separate dimes joined together or something else. Photos aren't clear enough, but I'm thinking an altered 's'.

Interesting too how the images of the back are half as large as the obverse {cough}.

Item location: Delhi, India Shouldn't that be a major red flag to these bidders who have ran this bogus 1916-D up past $1200 even if they don't know anything about Mercury dimes?

And from India no less, have fun tracking them down. I think I'm going to start selling fireproof underwear on ebay. A lot of these sellers are going to need it

Looks suspiciously like shill bidding from at least one bidder. All he needs is one inexperienced collector to come out on top to succeed in his attempt to rip someone off. If you mouse over the reverse image it enlarges it enough to see what you need to see that this dime is not a real 1916-D.

Yep, the orientation of the "D" is wrong.

Not just a fake, but a really bad one. The winning bidder should really enjoy it.

watching 3***L bid one and then another like that is kinda funny in a way, and kind of sad. Its a good thing fakes arnt perfect and exactly like the real thing or I would need to quit the hobby and that would kill me... literally! The only two things I noticed about the dime that it was fake at all was the "D" and the "E" in states. You gotta wonder how these bidders actually find out its fake I mean it might just move onto another inexperienced collector buy being sold or given as a present or whatever.

Surely, that does happen. Then too, there are ever so many "closet collectors" out there who don't study the hobby, network in clubs, attend shows or even participate in online forums that are more armchair friendly. Their coins rarely see daylight, much less than the eyes of other collectors. BTW, I've filed two ebay reports on this seller, in the for-what-it's-worth department. I somehow felt obligated to try to "curry" ebay's attention to this fraudulant seller.

I have been burned twice on ebay on inexpensive coins. I hate to think about spending $1000 and getting burned except ebay does reimburse when you use paypal. Just the same it sucks to get robbed by internet thief.

Not even a 1916 reverse, even ignoring the mintmark.
