I meant to post this for a long time, since reading about it here, when people mentioned retiring the quarter and resizing the half: What is this "Round 2" or the ATB Quarters that people kept mentioning during these "scrap the cent, nickel and quarter" debate? Please tell me that these new quarter designs are going to stop in the early 2020s! I hate all of these dang new design quarters they are coming out with, and they can't even come out with a new design 2014 50th anniversary Kennedy half? Or a new $1 and $2 note and dime design? (I mean, as long as the $1 note is around, redesign it whether the vending industry likes it or not, and at least the $2 note is getting the redesign in the next redesign program ) Oh well, I never see any of the new design quarters anyway, so why should I care? But I would really like to see the old eagle design back.

They'll keep milking that cash cow as long as they can, I'm afraid were stuck with perpetual change in designs for the foreseeable future.

I like the new ATB Quarters except for the low relief obverse. Though I am biased since I love natural landscapes and animals. On the whole they are the most artistic coins the US has come out with in a long time. The current series is slated to end in 2022 I believe but like Canada our quarters will probally continue to have revolving designs. After over 20 years of revolving designs by then I doubt the old eagle will return just from tradition if nothing else. I wish they were switch to a new non president obverse, but I'm super afraid of them changing it to a flat design like the Jefferson nickel.

The second round of ATB is just that. I the Treasury Secretary decides by (some year specified by law) that he wants ATB Quarters to continue past 2021, he can make the executive decision to have a second round of 5 quarters a year plus one in the final year for (I think) another National Park in each State/Territory. Meaning, that the ATB Quarters have the possibility of being minted until 2033, when by law the design has to go to a depiction of Washington crossing the Delaware.

PLEASE, GOD NO! I am getting tired of all of these quarter and dollar coin designs, and they can't even do a new series of half designs for one year to commemorate the 50th year for the Kennedy half (hopefully they are planning a 2017 redesign for Kennedy's 100th birthday)

Oh, why not? It's already been 15-ish years since the Statehood Quarters debuted, What's another 18 or so?

I have no problem with it. I like the differing designs. I wish they had done something design wise for the Kennedy half, but I am good with the simple rebirth of the original obverse.

I have no problem with it either. I enjoy the various designs. It makes life as a collector more...challenging...

Just one less coin series to collect. I just want a regular design, no multiple designs each year. Do what Canada does. Even though they have commemoratives, they still DO issue a Caribou quarter. This way it gives collectors an alternative, a continuity.

i like the different designs on the quarters and the few on the pennies and nickels a few years ago. Back in he 80's and 90's, there was so much grip about US coins being so boring. the same design year after year after year. Most designs were 50 plus years old. So, I guess the US mint listened plus its a good money maker for them too.

I personally love the ATB varieties each year. The system brings a lot of energy to modern collecting. I find that searching for the new circulated quarters is fun and enjoyable. If they weren't being issued, I'd be stuck just BUYING the boring older coins that looked the same year after year. Now, there are some designs that aren't quite interesting, but over all I think highly of the ATB issues. Quote: ...Do what Canada does. Don't forget, there are plenty of years the caribou quarters were not circulated: 1991, 1992, and 1997 through 2000. The collectors who only save 'base' coins would have had a long vacation between 1996 and 2001.

Any one have a link to a news article about the round two and then switching to a design of Washington crossing the Delaware. It seems like be too much like the New Jersey State Quarter for my comfort. I just don't like it as a permanent idea for a coin reverse.

I love the ATB designs. Each one is like looking though a round window into an everyday scene at the park. I just wished since the beginning that the series was done on the half dollar, perhaps with a new Teddy Roosevelt obverse, perhaps to try to get the coin circulating again. The designs would look so much fuller on the large coin. But I guess that's what the "pucks" are for.

Nothing like that in the US. I think the US Mint could learn a lot from the Royal Canadian Mint. Also, I think having multiple designs of quarters and dollars bloats the price of mint sets. One last thing about the ATB Quarters, the designs are to intricate for a small coin. I think they'd be better suited on larger coin such as a half dollar.

I would had like them on a bigger coin as well. I also understand why you would want it on the quarter since it's our most important and used coin.
You would had to convince the public to use half dollars again and not hoard them. I blame Kennedy's wife for all of it. I heard the only reason they went to 40% silver for the half was out of respect and not to upset her. It may have killed the circulating half dollar but atleast it gave us something to hunt for.
