Hi everyone, a local auction house in Australia has a rather nice looking 1898 50 Cent coin listed in their next auction. Would really appreciate any thoughts or comments, hopefully nobody else on here is planning to bid on this lot as well! Thanks and ignore the auction estimate!

I wish I was planning on bidding on that thing! It should go for thousands of dollars. If I could put a grade on that it would be maybe AU-MS something like that but man what a coin!

The more I look at it the more I think EF-AU.

Thanks! Could blow my coin budget for the year if I end up winning this. Australian grading tends to be harsher than North American grading, you often see slabbed low end MS coins described here as EF or AU. Still that estimate must be missing a zero...

Coin looks at least AU to me. Hard to tell the condition of the surfaces from a digital image, but it looks good. Only thing I dont like is that nick on the neck. Even so, 4 or 5 times the estimate woould be a good deal. Let us know how you did.

With only the slightest wear in the hairlines I would place my best guess at AU... would be nice to have the coin in hand to see the lustre as the photos I don't think do this coin justice.

Stock photo ...... Not with my distant cousin . Jim Noble is as straight up as you get. Oasis you should have been quiet about this coin if you were interested in it. Lots of people read the stuff on the forum and will be sure to look at this lot now.
Heck I will bet our good buddy 47p7 has already bid on it and has Jim on speed dial if he is out bid! !

Yes Pacificoin I should have kept quiet then again if a coin is listed in a Noble auction it's not going to fly under the radar! They had a bunch of Canadian lots in their last auction and they all went for very healthy prices...

Can't wait to see this one in person. Would that just be a deteriorating die between the A and N in Canada?
