Hi everyone. I am just wondering if there is anyone in the coin forum who collects $2 coins! I know many people don't like the $2 coins so don't collect them. I'm just interested if anyone does and if so, which coins/dates you collect.

I collect $2 along with at least two of every Aussie coin that's gone into circulation, and I'm sure there's a lot more like me. I also collect most errors, but am not very interested in doubling. I love die cracks, die clashes, rim Cuds, planchet & lamination flaws, upsets, incuse millennium etc etc etc.

I have started putting about 2 newish looking ones for each year from circulation aside. The early years from circulation are really looking poor now, as are the early $1 coins. A pity I didn't put more aside each year as they came out. I don't think they will last another 20 years without looking pretty ikky.

As I am trying to complete an entire decimal collection in uncirculated condition, I do collect the $2 coin. I was just looking at them today to see what I needed to get that series completed first.
I pull them out of mint sets, and of course the $2 series is the easiest to get that way as it is the shortest series, and all are available in mint sets.
I also have a circulated collection as well that I pull out of change. I think I have that one completed except for the 1991 and I haven't seen a 2007 yet.

G'day, my 1995 edition of Macca's says the 1991 $2 was "mint set only". 1993 then 1990 have the lowest mintages. Peter in Darwin

That all sounds interesting. I have very few $2 coins at the moment. I'm not sure why but I just haven't put them away. I think I will have to start and catch up of course . My main focus will still be 20 and 50 pieces though, particularly incuse flags 2000 50c, large head 2004 20c and of course wavy 2 1966 20c.

NEAesculus, There have been 3 x 2007 $2 coins recently reported found in circulation. 2 by Muckeye in Nanango, the other by myself in Brisbane. Hopefully the numbers will increase shortly.

Last night I picked up 2 very bright and shiny Unc 2006 $2 coins in change. At first I thought they might be 2007 since they were so shiny but after I put on my glasses was surprised to see they were 2006. Someone must have cracked open a mint roll that hasn't seen daylight yet. Still looking out for 2007.

Learjet, I've been getting 10-15 brand new 2006 $2's p/wk for over 4 weeks now. I reckon there's been a mass release of them. At this rate I don't expect to see many 2007's till sometime next year.
