I have a full strap ($100) in $1 star notes. How much is it worth?

to CCF. I had one a few years ago,1999 I think and got 10 cents each as a premium. I think it should have been more.Check ebay sold values. John1

Pull out any fancy serial numbers in the run, but otherwise the best bet is to sell it on ebay starting at face and see how high it goes. I'd expect $10-30 over face depending on how collectible others perceive your notes to be (run size, serial numbers etc). If you want, you could try holding the notes for a few years before selling. The lifespan of a $1 note is only a couple years, so the value is likely to increase slightly if the series is perceived as "obsolete" when selling. This may or may not get you ahead of the inflation curve.

This is not my forte but with a run of 3.2M, I wouldn't expect much or a premium per note. I could certainly be wrong. As John1 mentioned, check ebay sold listings to see what to expect. oh, and

I don't buy into the whole "run size". It doesn't matter one bit how many notes were printed, it just matters how many of them survive at the end of the day, and since notes have a very short lifespan and are used by almost everyone, saved in fewer quantities than coins due to less people collecting modern FRN's, and since stars are not kept separate from general circulating paper in most cases and are mistreated just the same as any other note, it all boils down to the survival rate in that particular grade and that particular federal reserve bank (and, if you really want to get fancy, the specific printing location, DC/FW, or whether the note is of COPE or LEPE overprinting for 2009) If you can afford to keep the full $100 for a couple decades, then do so. If not, any premium you'll get on ebay right now after fees and shipping (probably 10-25 cents a note) is probably not worth your time. Unless you want to try to get that little profit. If these were star notes from 1993 or 1999 or 2001 or even possibly 2003 or 2003A you'd be able to command higher premiums.

So you don't buy into the logic that a bigger print run is likely to lead to a larger pool of survivors?

I disagree, Groszy. The more notes that are floating around, the more survivors there will be. You can't say a run of 320k will have as many survivors as a run of 3.2mil.

Majority of people could care less what a star note is and will spend it and I think the point that Groszy is trying to make that in 20 to 30 years from now how many survivors will be left, regardless of print runs very few will survive...
Think about this for a second, How many star notes do you typically come across in a giving month? The answer for most of us is probably zero to one on average... I keep all star notes regardless of print runs and condition and if in 20 or 30 years I sell them and don't make anymore then face value on them then I am not out anything...

I would personally keep the strap regardless of run size. They sell on ebay for a premium and if you can, hold on to them for several years before selling.
