Here's another one I received this week. I thought it might have been a VAM28A from the seller's photos but it turned out to be a VAM32 which is ok as I didn't have one.

Nice one d700! I have 3 04o's. One I've attributed as VAM 41 "engraved neck" the other as possibly vam30 & haven't gotten to the other yet

04-O's can be tough. There are several die1,2,3 varieties. I've got another 04-O that I got last week that I need to take another pass through the listings to figure it out. Leave no VAM listing unturned....

That's for sure but the engraved neck is a smokin' pickup VAM. Usually I check for list vams first and if none apply I will put it away until I'm feeling bored and want to go down the list. Haven't approached VAM IDing by die yet. I'm sure it makes it alot easier

Ha ha, darn that was quick! your post inspired me to attribute my 3rd one. It's a VAM 45. With the bar O and a die chip at back of the eye... awesome! Thanks for the nudge d700

The VAM-28A is very similar to the VAM-32. The 28A is on Mark Kimpton's list of Elite Clashed Morgan dollars and the 32 is not. As a result, buyers often "see" the 28A when looking at the 32. A good pick up point is an area on the left wreath.

This area is where the obverse die clashed with the reverse die, damaging the reverse die with an imprint of the junction of Liberty's forehead and hair.

Very nice coin Dave, and rather under appreciated.
My advice is put down the '04-Os, and don't get hooked.

It may be too late I'm afraid. This makes 16 04-o Morgans in my collection. All but 2 are identified.

The real challenge is to identify them from a blurry auction photo. And if you are so inclined, keep your eye open for the VAM-11A. They were all but unheard until about a year ago. I think someone opened a roll.

Thanks for the tip. I'll put it on my watch list.
