Raw, based on those pics - at best a longshot bet in the ebay casino. He may as he says have accepted it in lieu of a $1K debt, but tht doesn't for a moment guarantee it's the real deal.

It's very tough to tell from the angle the picture was taken, but if I were selling it I would have it slabbed.

Without better pics, not a chance. If someone's asking 4 figures for something, the LEAST they can do is put up decent pics.

No one would sell a coin that rare in that good of a condition without A. Getting it slabbed, and B. Taking better pictures. I say fake.

It's likely a genuine 1909-VDB with an added S. But you never know. You gotta play to win!

Almost to funny. Those photos are as good as if they were taken from a plane.

I would avoid it. There's no way to properly check diagnostics from that angle unless the image is keystoned a lot (which would cause other problems).

I prefer to buy Rolex watches from the trunk of a car in the WallyWorld parking lot.

Well, if you're a gamblin' man who likes to bet on the really long shots, then I say go for it!

Can't you use ebay buyer protection if it is fake?

Yes you can. You'll need to either send the item back, or provide a letter from an expert stating it's fake and sign an affidavit that it has been destroyed and discarded. Then you get your money back.

99.99% chance it's fake. The reverse picture looks similar to many fakes I've seen. Also, consider how the seller described the coin....pleading ignorance.
