I picked this up a couple months ago. I have been trying to organize a little. What I am curious about, is a set like this worth more because it is in the holder. Or just take the coins out and 2X2 them.

It is a nice looking set. Value is probably higher individually because the market is larger. However, there is a small set of people who would enjoy that as a set. From them you may be able to get more, but the typical collector would probably buy it for one coin and look to liquidate the other two.

Simple, but impressive when silver dollars with good lustre are used. The stuff of family heirlooms.
I don't think the coins would be worth any more as a set presented like this, as opposed to the sum total of their individual values, but that is not the point of this type of presentation.

I like it as a set. None of the coins are scarce, and I think the whole is greater than the sum of the parts in terms of desirability. We're not talking about enough money to make a difference unless one of those coins is a 66.

Couple people mentioned they like it as a set ....
I am thinking the same thing. I bought this just like It is. Most times I bring the dollars home and put them in 2X2's ... These I have left in the holder.

Very nice set! I have several different Capital Plastics type set holders and they all look very nice completed and they are valued at no more than the sum of the coins in them plus the cost of the holder if you fill the holes. If you find a type set such as this already completed that coin dealer most likely purchased it that way from someone. It is not practical for a coin dealer to fill a type set holder to put in inventory because he would have to price it at a level above his retail prices for each coin and add in the cost of the holder so a collector could acquire a holder himself and fill it with coins of his choosing for less or more depending on the dates/grades of the coins. A coin dealer will individually evaluate each coin when purchasing such a set and will usually not pay for the holder since it requires extra time to remove the coins.
