Here is an RP 1893 with 2 distinct marks.. (arrows present) Is this the norm on this RP 9 or do we usually see only the bottom left of the knob doubled.. ?..or is the inner loop cleft mark an anomaly..? Thanks for any comments on this cent.. . . Edited by DEVLEC 03/28/2015 5:06 pm

I never noticed one before so I can't help you; and I'm not around my coins

I have looked through my lot and what I think is that this 9 is tripled as it cannot be hit above and below in a single punch?

Since I had the Charlton photos at hand....you have the double punched 9. All have a little disturbance in the lower left of the loop, but yours IMO looks bigger from the crud attached to it.

I agree bosox..the light at an angle can accentuate the lower loop disturbance,.. ...and we all know how much those 9's love to grab the crud.. . .

I believe the first three are slightly different states of the same die.

The real nice ones also have the 3 repunched visible upper right. Which of yours have the D/C between the Dei & Gratia?

viper..Thanks for the really great examples of how different the 93's can be. Here is another 93..but I can't see a d/c between DIE and GRATIA on this one.

Triple punched three. Not all of them have the obverse die crack.
