Does anyone know if there is a black Friday on coins? For those of you who don't know what black Friday, it's the day after Thanksgiving when all the retailers give discounts on items to bring people into the shopping season. I'm guessing, no but it would be nice if they did.

I have never heard of a dealer of any collectibles giving discounts on Black Friday. It is usually just a retailers thing and then it seems to be bigger retailers that do it most, the smaller local stores around here that have small family owned businesses usually don't have sales either

Discounts on coins at this time of year? Not likely ,,If anything the B+M dealers will be raising the prices for all the wives and Kids who are getting Hubby or Dad a coin as a gift .

Right, I figured that they didn't and I also figured that they are probably raising their prices. Hopefully, some dealer sees this and gets an idea (One can wish, right?).

I must be living under a rock. I have never heard the term "Black Friday" associated with the shopping day after Thanksgiving. Is this a recent expression and why "Black Friday"? Sounds like a stock market crash day or a horrible event. Mike

My wife will be in a Bad mood when she gets home in the morning ! so much for living with a Wal-mart employee ! Black Friday is a term used more by the workers than the patrons . Metalman

"Black Friday" refers to a day to put retailers "in the black." The Friday after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year.
I think it is a fairly recent term, but have no idea when it started.

Wal-mart here starts at 5:00 a.m. and ends at 11:00 a.m., hence why I am awake right now (the things you will go through for your kids) Oh yeah, lets not forget cyber Monday, that will be on the 26th where you get all your deals online and where we get to test everyones online store for stability (or try to crash them should be a better term) and again I doubt there will be any collectible websites using this to lower prices

Black Friday has been a tradition here in the Boston area for many years, maybe even from the eighties. I never go out, since I am content to shop online and I am not really competitive enough.
Hmm.. however the idea of a coin shop Black Friday is appealing... I can see it now...
Looking over the ads spread out all over the kitchen table the night before and working up a strategy. Gassing up the car, planning the ultimate driving route and honing the plan of execution. Getting the whole family out of bed at 4AM to stand in line to wait for the coin shops to open at 6AM. Bringing granny along to throw elbows so that you can get to the large cents before they are all gone...
Coming home exhausted by 10AM with bags and bags and bags of great deals on coins...

Black Friday signals the beginning the the season in which retailers move from the red (deficit) into the black (profit). For many retailers, the business of Black Friday alone is enough for the retailer to move into the Black. For others, they need the entire season to get into the balck.
It is widely believed, wrongly, that Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. Many studies have shown that while it is is AMONG the busiest, it is rarely busier than the weekend before Dec. 25th, especially the Saturday before Dec. 25th.

Black Friday is a day I set aside to stay as far away from the malls and large retail stores as I can. I HATE crowds. My cousin, however, has already turned a handsome $250 Black Friday profit (if you assume his time is worth nothing). He stood in line at Best Buy, starting yesterday around noon, to get an $800 computer for $200 this morning at 5 o'clock. He turned around and sold it for $450 right there in the store. He made $75 on a Wii yesterday morning at Kmart. Entrepreneurship at its most basic level.

Luckily my wife feels the same way about the malls and crowds as you do, hunter20ga. I count it as a blessing, but told her she must have defective X chromosomes or something. However my sister-in-law is visiting from Delaware and dragged her out there into the melee this morning. I got to stay home!
