Look at the date esp. the 8. What is this called? And is there a premium?

Without a hint of what your seeing its hard to tell. The only thing I see is a raised area on the right side and bottom of the 8. Gas between the zinc and copper layers. No premiun. If there is something I'm not seeing, give me a hint.

The date is "doubled". The 8 shows it the best. Did you look at it at full sized? I'm sure it's not a DD, and it doesn't look like mech. doubling either, but it's got to be something....

I hope this helps. The colored parts are the "doublings" I mentioned.

it is really hard to tell from the pics, but my guess is Die Deterioration.

Further, for what it is worth, I have just gone thru about 5500 1972-P Lincolns. The vast majority of mechanical and ejection doubling and die wear shadowing (doubling) is on the date. If someone could explain that, I would appreciate it.

No doubling, the copper plating is split.

Thanks, Jim & biokemis6. Is the splitting copper plating a pretty common thing?

Splitting/plating sliding or die deteration. When the split happens over the mint mark it doesn't take long to see the damage.
