My mom brought over my grand dad's coin hoard of halves and other coins and said here go through these and see what is there. I wound up with 2 rolls of 40% Kennedy's, 2 Franklin's, 1 Walker and a 64 Kennedy and to top off Easter weekend I received the 44 Mercury dime in change. Thanks granddad and Easter Bunny.

I am new to coin collecting.I just bought 6 rolls of Kennedy half dollars the seller said they were unopened and unsearched.I went through the rolls and found coins from 1971 through 2004. Is there a good way to organize a search?

Nice - Do they still keep the 40%'ers? Or toss 'em back.

Aren't you glad your mother gave the coins to you? Or else you'll be reading about a small silver dump post on here in a few days or weeks later, not knowing those came from your family. Lol

I still get Coins from my Grandpa's coins every B-Day and every Christmas. He has 11 grandkids, so his collections is a pretty good size. He passed away in 1987, so Grandma gave them out after that, then she past in 2008, so my Mom gives her fourth of the collection out now. I'm the only one in my immediate family that knows anything about coins, so I've looked through my Mom's inheritance portion. (Pretty good size still with a lot of good coins left) I just had a birthday recently. My mom gave me a 1928 s Peace dollar this year. After I opened it she asked "Is that a good one?" I said yep, It's worth $200,000! Thanks Mom! She was like, "I need that back" Ha ha ha

Make sure you keep them separate from your other coins. Once you mix them up you lose the memory forever.
I wish I hadn't mixed the wheat cents I had gotten from my grandfather in with the ones I found later.
20 years later I also forgot 1 of the 2 SLQ's I had from my childhood collection when I put them in an album and started adding and upgrading it. Luckily I was able to remember the other one as it had a distinct look to it.

@Jack Jeckel. Very good point. I have all of grandpa's coins separated from my Regular Collection. My favorite coin I received from my Grandpa is my Avatar.

I've mixed up some of my inherited coins with new ones, but for a good reason. I put the wheats in a folder, and filled the holes. The duplicates I put in a tube. I have everything but the 1909-S VDB and 1914-D.

I don't keep them separated, but I have a good memory so I know almost exactly what each coin in my collection looks like, and which were inherited.
