I have a few V-nickels, and just a couple of Buffalo nickels, and 2 War Nickels. I was just wondering because I was thinking of collecting to more which style of nickels would be the best to collect? And also For the War Nickels is the ones from 1942-45 with the letter P and S n them the only ones that are silver? Just trying to make sure. Thanks for any advice.

Nickels from 1942 to 1945 with the large mint mark (P, D, or S) on the reverse are 35% silver. That information is on the nickel fact page

Thanks Fuzzy, still learning my way around the site. I wasn't sure on the placement of the markings on the coins which ones had silver. I appreciate your help.

As far as which ones would be best to collect is entirely up to you. It's one of the joys of coin collecting, there are no standards on what to collect.

Just remember, if you decide to collect V-Nickels or Buffalo nickels, that each series has a couple semi key and key dates that are a little pricey.

Given that I am currently doing a Buffalo set, that is the one I would suggest. The keys are a little pricey, but none of them are just wallet breaking.
Rest in Peace

A nice circulated set of Jefferson's might suit you fine. some dates you can still find by roll searching. the ones you have to buy will be inexpensive.
Happy Collecting.

Agreed.
If you are on a tight budget Jeffersons are the place to start.

Sort of depends on how much money you want to invest. For example you could almost fill an Album from rolls from the bank if you go with Jefferson nickels. Buffalo and V nickels will all have to be purchased.
