Hello everyone, I was seeking some help on reddit regarding a coin I came across. I think I have identified it as a Mexican 1748 Mo MF Eight Reales Pillar Dollar, however, I'm not quite sure if its authentic or a fake. They suggested posting here so I was wondering if anyone might know more on the subject here. My end goal was to put some sort of value on the coin.

Looks like a cast copy - salvage coins don't have bubbles like that.
Bigger pictures would be better though (and if you could post a picture of the edge as well ?)

First off, welcome.

My initial impression is also that it's a casting. Aside from the true specialist, for everyone else these are exceptionally risky to buy raw, as they've been and continue to be widely forged. Some of the latest such are quite convincing and will even have the correct weight, although this particular coin doesn't look to be in that especially deceptive category.

Here are some pictures of the edge of the coin. I tried to get the best quality I could but my camera is in need of an update.

There appears to be a seam running through the edge pattern that's also indicative of this having been cast. Genuine specimens were, of course, struck. I'm fairly certain you have one of the many phonies that are floating around nowadays, for which the value is nominal.

Ok, I wasn't counting on too much from it but it's good to confirm its not a genuine coin. Thanks for the help. I'm not really sure what I'll do with it now.
