Poll Question
I have pondered the thought of where my collection will be going for many years now. However, I still don't have an answer. None of my family or close friends are a numismatic freak like myself. So I'm just curious on what you plan on doing with your collections, in hopes of giving me some ideas. Thanks in advance for your input!

I'll probably give it to my younger sibling(s) or my children.

Where's the choice for "its being burried with me"? Can't take it with you my arse, lol! All kidding aside, I'll probably, well will most definitely keep it till my last days, hopefully one of my youngsters will be interested in coins by then (they're currently 1 1/2 years and 3 years old as of now, lol, so I have some time to plant the "spark"). But in the event nobody wants to continue the collection, my kids/wife will have strict instructions and a sheet noting all coins, especially rarer coins/varieties/errors as well as an average low-high price to expect when selling... As well as the name/number of my two trusted shops..... If they're still around by then. But I'll be darn sure to make it clear exactly what they have so they're not taken for a ride
Edit* for the poll I choose "give it to a family member/members"..... But "keeping it till I pass" is also true..... They'll get it.... But not till I'm gone..

I voted auction it off. I have children, but not sure their interest when they get to be adults. If they are not interested in the hobby then I would like to auction it to other like minded collectors.

As I've said elsewhere on the subject, coin collecting is a disease that only infects about 10% of the population, and it is not usually hereditary. So unless you're either fortunate or have a larger than average pool of heirs and successors, there isn't likely to be anyone who is interested enough in the collection to maintain it and keep it going.
Which may not necessarily be a bad thing, especially if your collection is a considerable proportion of your estate. If you've got, say, five heirs, and only one of them is a coin collector, do you show favouritism to that one in your will and give your entire collection to them? That sounds like an excellent way to either cause a family rift or to have your will challenged by the four neglected heirs. The "fair" solution is to have it sold and divided evenly; if one or more of your heirs wants to buy part of your collection, they'll have to pay fair market value for it out of their share of the estate.
Logically, it would be far better for you (and for family harmony) if you disperse your collection while you are still hale and hearty. This has the added benefit of sharing your knowledge and explaining to your designated inheritors the significance of your most prized items. Alas, not all of us are given that chance and many of those of us who are given that chance refuse to take it, remaining collectors to the very end.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I'll sell it before I kick the bucket, unless someone in family becomes interested. Might as well use the money for a good vacation one day.

Then sell today, because you might be gone tomorrow. You don't get to choose the timing.

I have no idea. No one I know, relatives, friends, etc. have no interest in coins at all. Just not sure where it all will go.

Considering the sheer mess that my room looks like, and our ongoing plans to eventually move out of our current country before it becomes too much of a dystopian hellhole (and, for that matter, our export laws, which don't look kindly on leaving the country with lots of old coins... even if they're mostly old foreign coins) I won't be surprised if I lose my collection well before I pass away. Also, I believe in the Singularity, so I do not intend to die of old age anyway. That said, assuming the collection is still with me by then, I do expect that I'll eventually find some relative who would like it (perhaps a kid or grandkid of my younger brother; at some point, it looked like the brother himself is interested, but now that he's 9 he doesn't seem to be as interested anymore - of course it could still change later).

I voted "other" because you don't have an option for "who cares, I'll be dead" I enjoy it. It relaxes me, it gives me a feeling of pride and satisfaction and really, after I am dead, who cares where it goes. I know I won't.

Hopefully be able to sit in the auction room with a cold beer in my hand and laugh at the stupid amounts it will all bring. Then when the auction firm cheque clears, give all of it to the SPCA. It will be my way of saying what great joy animals have given in this life. If this doesn't work out ...............honey there all yours enjoy!
