Does anyone know the simplest way to get LWCs (pennies from 1909-1958)? I'm not looking for any key dates. I'm just trying to partially fill an album I have. Should I buy rolls from the bank or should I buy them from my LCS? They sell them in rolls.

Searching rolls from a bank is a tedious process but you can accumulate wheats that way. LCS or ebay would be good choices.

Northern Illinois Coin and Stamp sells them online. They are sorted by decade and semi-graded...like good, extra fine, unc.
Maybe your local shop does the same. It costs a bit but there's very little chance of getting all the wheaties you need from the bank.
Good luck.

Buying rolls from your LCS is prabably the best way to start. That strategy would avoid ebay fees and shipping fees. The next step would be to search through junk bins at dealers and coin shows. Later, for individual coins of the dates and mintmarks you want, perhaps that would be the time for searching ebay. A display or storage problem can arise, if you get interested in much better coins for rarity or condition. They would require a better storage approach, in which you may have to consider slabs or capsules.

Get in good with some of your local coin shops. Most coin shops get in the blue Whitman folders, book one 1909 - 1941, book two 1942 - 196X These folders come in, but most book ones are not complete. When they come into the coin shop I help at, I take the coins out and put them into the Wheat cent bins. If you can get a couple of these, you would have a very good start on a collection.

If you're want to make a good folder I would go to a dealer and cherry pick his bins. Probably best fastest and easiest way to get all the coins except key dates. Key dates you either buy by themselves although I wouldn't put my 1909 s vdb in a book.

Check with your LCS. There's one near me that takes the wheaties they get when they buy collections and throws them in a barrel. I think they sell them by the pound.

Coins dealers are a good source. They often have a "junk box" of common date coins. The better ones are at least sorted by denomination and type. You can find them at both local shops and at coins shows. A large part of my Indian Head cent pages were filled this way.

Im in a similar situation, not sure how to get honest rolls of wheaties that arent the phony unsearched rolls, or arent all damaged in some way. I bought 250 wheaties from a coin shop for .04 each and although a few '58 AU pennies were in there, there were at least a dozen corroded beyond recognition, cleaned coins, and almost half of them had at least some form of gunk or green stuff on them (and are all common date so probably not worth the effort to save). So when you omit the problem coins, I'mpaying way more that four cents each for some common dates in good condition that the Red Book says arent even worth that. How am I to know the same thing doesnr happen when buying rolls of ebay? I read one post on here recently where someone opened up rolls of their wheat pennies after years of storage and many were ruined. If I were to answer my own question it would seem to bid on lots of unrolled coins with some decent photos. Buying any common date ppiece by piece seems like I will overpay and arent worth it

There are sellers on ebay who sell wheaties by the pound. That's the direction I would go. Rolls can be a bit too pricey if you are looking for certain coins.
