Hello all. I just pulled this high grade example from a MWR. It has the finest detail I've ever seen of all the Indian Head cents I've found over the years. Only problem as you can see is a coating of green(corrosion?) along the edges. Is there something I can do to improve the appearance of this coin without harming it? Thanks in advance, MM2

Looks AU-58 RB. Get some verdi-care from BadThad to remove the verdigris.

The "coating of green" is an indication that damage has already started. The green means the copper in the coin has already started to react with environmental elements. Stop it quickly before it progresses too far and you MAY be okay.

That's pretty amazing that you pulled that from a roll!

I started following Badthad's polarity ladder and have the coin sitting in a glass jar of distilled water. Thanks for all the replies. I wonder if this was caused by storage in a album.

It could have been, which is why I recommend following those steps. Let us know how it turns out.

That coin spent a lot of time out of circulation.

I suspect it was acquired from a collector (through inheritance or nefarious means) and then spent/dumped. However, there is a chance that the collector spent it and hoped it would end up in the right hands. Then again, maybe it sat in a mason jar for over one hundred years.

I soaked this coin in distilled water for several days changing the water about every 12 hours. That had little effect. I had it in acetone overnight followed by dipping it in distilled water. That didn't seem to improve it either. The latest pics do not capture the detail on this coin. The outdoor lighting wasn't right.
