I'm totally new on this forum because I found myself a Oliver Cromwell 1658 coin. I hoped you might help me to find out if this is a real cromwell coin or a reproduction.
This coin is not a fake; it is a modern commercial replica, similar to the original, but not intended to deceive.
From the pictures, it appears to made from copper - nickel, not silver. The style has all of the characteristics that suggest that it was produced in a modern coining press.
My brother found this coin and I am wondering if it is real or fake. I do not know much about British coins and it is hard to find solid info on identify the original coin. Any help would be appreciated.
I am just a novice, but this second coin looks like a cast one to me. The definition of detail is poor and the field either side of the head is dimpled. Look for a mould line around the edge of the coin. If there is one, then it is definitely a cast fake.
@cbernard, welcome to CCF! By the way, you may get better responses by starting your own thread rather than tacking on to a previous one. Either posting method will work, but you may just get more attention if you stand on your own.
