Hi I'mfrom the UK and have recently come into a sum of money and so am wondering whether or not to invest in Junk or Bullion silver, I have a small amount of silver I have collected over the years but cannot decide so I would like to know your opinions.

many thanks,

ASW should be bought for below melt.
Have to pay for assay and refining costs.
Most dealers won't see it that way, and will charge a premium above melt.

I like junk.. only because they're old coins that were once used in circulation. So if I'm getting junk for around spot I'm happy and a buyer.

I also like bullion but I don't fall into this fad of paying more for bullion with people calling it (semi-numi)... eg. pandas ... I pay spot or the premium the dealer has so they can make some $$ but that's it.

Between the two ... I'll always take the junk over the bullion but that's just because the junk is recognized by a government already and ya never know you might have a peculiar variety of coin as well... which can be neat. I've purchased bags of coins and been happily surprised with receiving an odd variety or two as a bit of a surprise.

Welcome VexCoins!
If you are stacking for inflation, then bullion.
If you are stacking for a collapse of fiat money, then junk coins.
In a stable world, people will want the reassurance of established bullion.
However, should a panic occur, you can be sure that the news services will include in their newscast a story on how to identify silver coins which once circulated.
Junk coins will be more identifiable in a panic.

How much to pay is a separate issue.
But asking yourself 'why' is an important step.

Don't spend all your new money on coins, be sure to keep 3 to 6 months of expenses tucked away.

Having said that, I've been 'stacking' silver in various treasure chests, crowns, florins, sixpenny pieces, pesos, francs, marks, rupees, etc., for some years now. A lot more fun than boring rolls of bullion.

Whichever you can purchase for the closest price to melt value is what you want, since you're 'investing'.

I have about a kilo of World junk silver. All of it as come by way of being part of job lots at auction, which included coins that I was particularly interested in.
The result is that all of the junk silver that I have is really just a bonus.
