JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I'm sure Bishftl will vouch for my street creds since I traded him $550 face in BU NIFC and I have 2 boxes of wheel marked and dinged ones sitting here.

3 more boxes I picked up after work.

1 proof, a few NIFC, a 1982 no FG, and a magician.

What's the deal with these magician coins. I have about 10 of them (2 double heads but I gave one to a teller who saved a 1964 Kennedy for me on time) and I have only been able to get one open. I had to pry the crap out of this one to open it with a pocket knife. If you are trying to do a magic trick wouldn't you think you would need the coin to just pop open while in the palm of you hand while you distract the victim? I once got and obverse only half of one which had a British large cent glued to the back of it.

I started with 1 Chase branch 1 box a month for a few months. Then 2 boxes a month and then 1 box a week and then 2 boxes a week and then 2 boxes twice a week and then 4 boxes twice a week and then I started bribing them with pizza and donuts and get 6 boxes twice a week. All from the same branch I started out with.

One week they forgot to order (back when I was doing 2 boxes a week) and I went out doctor shopping, I mean bank shopping, and found a M & I (now BMO) bank down the block from my house who said they would only give me $300 in halves since I didn't have an account there. I went back the next weekend and started getting 2 boxes a week from them and then 4 boxes a week.

Since I was getting more coin and it always seemed to be Loomis I decided to open an account the bank next to my main Chase pickup because I would always see a Brinks truck outside. I ordered 2 boxes and they were Loomis. I went back the next week to get 2 more and they told me the branch manager said no. I told them to give me my $300 back and closed my account 2 weeks after opening it.

4 months ago a door to door salesman came in and was talking to the guy working the counter abut opening a bank account with them (Associated Bank). I didn't need anymore banks and the counter guy came to my office and I told him I had heard what the salesman was saying and the only reason I would open an account was to get coin and dump coin. Well he was still there and came over and said no problem. I didn't have time to make it to the bank to open an account and the guy must have been hard up for leads because he called me like 4 times in 2 weeks. I finally got over there and they are also across the street from my Chase branch so on Thursdays I get 2 boxes a week from them. They also have a branch down the block from my other Chase dump bank and one on the street I take home so it works out good.

Since I now have to work 9-6 weekdays and every Saturday it is extremely difficult to dump $9K a week as only 2 Chase branches are open until 7 and the other 2 banks close at 5 or 6. I need to find a new brand bank that is open later or on Sundays (I think TCF is)

The Magician's coins can be opened by putting them in a thick walled glass or a non-2- liter- bottle- type- plastic container with a top. Put the coin in it and shake the daylighting out of it until the pieces separate. It will come apart.

A magic shop can sell you a small plastic ring they call either a bang or a bam ring (I do not remember which) . It's a thin ring that the coin will fit in only on one end of the ring. The ring is put on a table, the coin is inserted in the top, the ring is picked up and banged on the table, the removable insert falls out the other end b/ c of the shck of the I pact.

BTW I have only found one two headed half and it was not made to separate.

I have two boxes ordered for this Wednesday and I look forward to going through them. I has been some weeks since I have done any boxes of halves.

THIS said, I just had an interesting thing happen about an hour ago. On my way home there was a traffic jam and I turned around to take an alternate route. While doing so, I saw a small yard sale and stopped to see what they had.

I was able to pick two 14K ZZ earring which I value at about $25-$30 dollars. I happened to mention I really liked coins and he said he was glad to find someone who knew something about them. He brought out some loose ones and most were not worth much but the following caught my eye:

1858-O Liberty Seated half dime

He said I could have both the earrings and the Half Dime for $20 if I was interested. I told him I thought that was fair and got the lot. I would grade the 1858-O at F-12 and value it at around $30 based on the Red Book. Problem is I am not sure I will let the coin go now. With no income now, it is likely I will.

Just curious if anyone has found a 2013 NIFC in circulation yet?

I have found silver Canadian dimes and a quarter while roll hunting, and LOADS of pennies and modern dimes. I have them in a brinks dime box and it is almost too full to close. I would guess that it contains about $100 face.
I think I have a total of 85 cents face silver Canadian.

I stopped at a small town bank that has been there since dirt was new, (seriously, its over 100 years old and it has a BEAUTIFUL lobby.. 20+ foot ceilings and marble everywhere. the vault is right there for all to see also. Too bad it is over 50 miles from my home.) and asked for some half dollars. She was only willing to give me 2 rolls since I didn't bank there, but when she plopped them down on the counter I saw right away that there was a silver Kennedy reverse showing. It turned out to be a 1967, and the most beat up silver Ken I have ever found.
The edge looks like a clad coin though.. the copper layer is very copper colored, rather than that dark color you normally see. Maybe it was cleaned? I dunno.. it went in the silver stash right away. My Mom has an account there so she is going to grab me some more when she stops by.
