JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Here's a head's-up for anyone in the NYC area. I just brought 6 rolls of Kennedy halves to the bank which include many BU Gems from 2005-2009 and a few mid 1990s dates. I had gotten an absurd deal on ebay when someone's auction never caught fire and they had a very low opening bid and I got them for less than face value. I figured just cashing them in and putting them out there might make some Roll Hunter's day, and guaranteed a profit instead of going through the trouble of trying to sell them individually or in pairs.
I'm also getting a kick out of using them at stores. I've also put aside two rolls just to buy lottery tickets hoping they spread the luck of their original acquisition.
This is a rare opportunity to find post 2001 issues in circulation,which was the last year the Mint released JFKs into circulation.

Got a box and it had 2 40%ers. May want to start back up.

I am getting the sense that there are so many people roll searching halves that at least in some areas of the country, the silver is dried up because there are too many roll searchers.

I have found a few 1982 no FG halves while searching and I also recall a Magician's coin or two. I have yet to find a doubled die but I must admit the first few months I searched I really didn't have the experience to really detect them.

I now use a 10x Gemoro Loupe along with my Bausch 5x magnifier when searching the key dates for doubled dies. Also, I have not found a rotation error either but maybe I will one day.

As for the machine, it is likely a larger version of the hand guns some PM dealers are now incorporating. They simple place a ring on a platform, squeeze the trigger, and an LCD readout shows the exact composition of the piece. I have also saw an alternate version where multiple pieces are placed in a container and they are all scanned simultaneously with the same LCD readout option. If I were a dealer, with decent volume, I would have at least the hand held version.

Since my last update I've done another 6 boxes of halves as well as quite a few loose rolls and coins.

I should be getting at least another 7 boxes for this weekend. Hopefully I can keep up on finding the 40%. I'm still waiting for my first 90% from a box or BWR.
