I thought I had asked this question a few days ago but can't find it...anyway...how do you get bags of halves...my bank doesn't have them and can't buy direct from Loomis without an account.

To BasicBob,

As always, every region is different.

I've found it's best not to ask directly for bags vs rolled. Just call the banks in your area and ask them if you can buy half dollars. They will usually tell you they have a minimum amount. If not...ask. If the minimum is $1k, it's a bag of loose halves. I'm guessing the banks save money buying the $1k loose. I've found the larger banks are more inclined to have the $1k minimum.

Side note: The bags in my area are directly off the bank machine. It's not recounted. They try to mark out the original bank information. Most of the bags come off the free self-serve machines. I've purchased my own dumps on several occasions. You do occasionally hit a good bag. Also, the amount of coin and garbage in the bags vary widely.

thanxz Owassokie,

The banks I have been dealing with all have a $1K minimum, but they are all boxes, think the minimum is set by the wrapping company. Some want a $5 surcharge to order which I am not wild about. (that's $5 per box or $10 to order the min)

Hello to all

My Eisenhower dollar coin source has about gone bye-buy. And with that is my loss of finding Morgans, Peace dollars, and ASE etc.

For me, 90% and 40% Kennedy half dollars would be all so nice.

However the hope of finding a Walker, or a Benny, would be beyond breath taking. Heavens forbid a Barber Half.

May I please ask any-all players in HALF Dollar boxes, to share their percentage break down rate on a single box AVERAGE?

40% -- 90% -- Bennys -- Walkers -- Barbers -- Others?

Thank you, I will be grateful for any info.

WOW

Your attention to detail, and quantity of your samples (468 boxes) is breath taking. I think with this depth of searches, it might be a standard for box, bag, roll hunters in Half Dollars.

If I understand a "box" is $500 (or 1,000) coins. That means your searched 468,000 coins. with your silver finds of 1975 coin. WOW.

Be cause my IKE bags are in a grave situation, I am going to order my first Half Dollar box, Monday.

Thanks again Arby96

1 Morgan dollar
2 ASE
3 Peace dollars (one not shown in the picture).
1 Buffalo Indian 2001 (P)
1 Buffalo Indian 2001 (D)

Picture was of the first two $1,000 bags
The missing Peace Dollar came (maybe) in the 3rd-4th bag

Personally, I consider my best bag the one that had (about 373) 1976 (P&D) Type 1 & 2 coins. Most were toned, most were peggers, Most were MS or MS+ most were type 1 (D)

This is the bag that had all the Bicentennial toned, peggers, type 1 & 2 (P & D) IKEs

Has anyone else noticed the number of people searching haves for silver has decreased? Or is it just me? Seems like less people posting and less frequent posts. Really think it has slowed due to the fact that silver has come down in price so far and that the easy pickings were snatched up.

Probably some reduction in action due to AG price.

Give it some time, and the regular "old collectors coins" will slowly spill back into banks. I hope.

4 boxes from Chase. For some reason all of sudden they were Brinks boxes. Only once in the last 3-4 years have I gotten Brinks boxes and when I did I think they had 6 or 7 silver in them.

I got completely skunked this time.

Picked up 4 boxes from BMO last night. Brinks boxes again. 2 boxes were skunks and I was starting to get worried since it was now a 14 box skunk streak when the 3rd box had a 1964 ender. Ended up with 2 1964's and 3 40%ers. Box 4 has a corroded 1980 proof ender.

Domain - I agree with you. I am worried the system will not recharge itself with silver as much as we would like unless the price of silver stays low for a while. One never knows and unless we keep looking, we won't know!
