JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

I got lucky today - went for a $500 box of halfs, and they brought out the oldest most beat up box I have ever seen - it was a jack pot with 12 40% and 2 90% coins - best I have ever done on one box.

Just cracked 4 more boxes today. 2 skunks, I pulled 2-64D and 1-67 and 1-68, 3-NIFC and 2-GEM 99's. Last 4 boxes tomorrow for the week. Wishing you all the best. Keep up the hunt and please post pics.

I picked up four boxes today. I went through three of them...ZERO silver. My only finds were:
1972-D with no designer initials
2003-P NIFC
1973-S - so worn that I didn't even realize it was a proof at first
1989-S
2009-S - would have been close to unimpaired condition, except some idiot took a torch to the face to try to artificially tone it...so now it's an otherwise perfect coin that has a black burn mark surrounded by a rainbow.

One roll had 3 GEM 1999 and 5 GEM 1988...somebody must have been collecting low-mint examples and decided to release them to the wild...I won't make that same mistake lol.

I keep non intended for circulation coins 1987 p and d, Kennedy halves dated 2002-present alongside proofs, 90% and 40%

I keep every NIFC coin, regardless of condition. This includes 1987, 2002-present, and every proof (S mint). I keep every XF or better coin with low mintage (those with under 15M minted). I keep every BU coin, regardless of year.

I keep beautifully toned coins, regardless of year.

I variety-check 1971-D, 1972, 1972-D, 1973-D, 1974-D, 1977-D, and 1982 (DDO/missing initials). This can be very time consuming, especially when I'm going through 4 boxes at a time, so sometimes I don't check for DDOs on coins with more than just a little wear. I average 1 or 2 variety coin finds per box, which might not be worth the time commitment for many.

I store my coins in tubes, sorted by year and mint mark. I have a separate tube for toned coins of any year. Once a tube fills, I roll it and put it into the safe deposit box.

I probably keep a lot more coins than more CRHs, but it's a no-risk investment with a lot of upside potential.

When I dropped my paycheck off this afternoon I went inside the bank instead of the usual driverthru. I'm glad I did. I asked about halves for the first time in about a year and the teller had 4 rolls. She sad she the same gentleman brought in a bunch of large dollars, but one of the other tellers claimed them. I bought the 4 rolls and ended up with 38 40%. Pretty nice surprise.

4 boxes yielded a 1964 Kennedy, 1940s walker (my first ever in a coin roll hunt) 3 40% 7 NIFC and a decent 2000s proof clad. Maybe I should go back to ordering 4 boxes a week.
