Picked up a Brinks box and 29 rolls today...NO silver. Last roll had a 91S proof. Well it's the end of the year and I guess I'll post my finds for the year.

90%-63 (48 Kennedy, 14 Franklin, 1 Walker)

40%-539

NIFC-136 (87P,87D,02P-27,02D-28,03P-11,03D-20,05P-13,05D-22,06P-9,06D,07D,08P,08D)

Proofs-11 (76S,77S,78S,79S,80S,81S,88S,91S,98S,99S-SILVER,07S)

I was tossing an idea around in my head. Wondering if any of us posting here are competing in the same areas searching for silver. My idea was, if any of us are searching in the same areas, maybe we could coordinate and use the same banks to dump at (or at least let the other person know where they are dumping at). I think it would be beneficial. First off we wouldn't be purchasing the others dump and spreading them all over the place to be bought by us again. And if we dumped at the same bank, they would be bagged up and shipped out quicker (so others don't spread them all over the place again). I was thinking that we could post the directional area of the state we live in, and go from there with PMs. I'm searching in Western NC.

Fair enough, Ratman. I support your idea because it will, in theory, flush out dumped halves, and dig deeper into the dregs that the Fed is holding. In theory, we could try to discover hidden silver now, before a GSA-type sale nets the government a profit on what should be OUR silver! :-)

I'm searching in Western CT.

I'm not sure that the end results will be what you are hoping for. I think 2 things will cause the Fed to dig into the dregs. 1) A heckuva lot more roll searchers, 2) Everybody hoarding the halves that are searched instead of dumping them back into the system (not likely to happen).
The end result of my plan is minimize searching through searched rolls (saving time and effort) and hopefully finding more customer wrapped rolls that aren't dumped rolls raising the silver percentage find.

I'm searching in Central and Southern NJ. I had an interesting box yesterday.

1 1964 - BU
3 x 40%
1989 Proof
NIFC - 2002-P, 2004-D, 2006-D
and three halves with stickers on them:
1 with a bunch of military guys
1 with Elvis "30 year anniversary"
1 with Barack Obama (micro-clad in gold).
I think these are the same things being sold on TV for $19.99 or so.

Does this make me the first to find a Barack Obama half on the forum?

Im from the buried state of Iowa, Sioux City to be exact . I only dump at Wells Fargo as I know that they bag theirs and sell back to the Fed. If anyone is from this area, you will find very little if any from the tellers at any location. Most of them are fairly educated on halves so the odds of getting from a tray are very slim.

Hopefully you're not only the first to find one...but you're also the first to OWN one!

Central Iowa here, Des Moines. I really only roll hunt on road trips now, and unfortunately, most of those do involve me going through Sioux City. I also dump at WFC banks.

Here's an update on the box I started earlier.
I found 10 silver coins including 1 1964 and 9 40%.
My best box yet
I also found a souvenir coin relating to Belgian heritage. Pics below

Various dates, but mostly 1974P's.

Most of the rolls also had more than normal amounts of 1997's in them.

Went to the bank today to deposit a check and teller told me she had just got in $95.00 in half dollars. Ran back to store, got checkbook and went back to the bank to get them. Found several bu half dollars and one 1964 as well as a few nicer looking pieces from the 1980's and 90's which upgraded my half dollar collection. The extra bank run was worth the gas today! Sincerely, John Leckrone

I'm glad you guys are Dumpimg at Wells Fargo! I really despise them. (Mortgage issue! Takes 15 minutes to talk to a live body and everytime you call you get a different person telling you something entirely different )Now that they took over Wachovia...I'll be Dumping there!

Yeah, Wachovia has all of a sudden become <<please keep it family friendly!>> after being taken over by Wells Fargo; their customer service has dropped drastically and they've become another nasty conglomerate bank. And definitely they are crap when it comes to a mortgage. They didn't want to refinance an ARM until they HAD to, and even then, it took about 8 months.....but it was so easy to get into! If my account wasn't closed there, I'd dump there too! (But, BOA gets my half dollars since they, too, cannot even get back to me about ordering any.)

Before I digress any more, to keep in the tradition of searching half dollars (and nickels) on New Year's Day, a Suntrust in South Daytona yielded $37.50 in loose halves (she was so happy to hand them over), and out of that came $6.50 in 40% (2 1966, 6 1967, 5 1968-D). They looked like someone busted open mint rolls (especially the 1967s), and there were a lot of shiny 1976 issues which looked like someone did the same thing to them :(

As for searching, I'm in Orlando and occasionally get to travel around the area, checking other banks. Have had better luck with half dollars in Daytona Beach than here.
