Happy New Year to all! I searched four boxes yesterday: 2 Brinks and 2 FED. The 2 Brinks I was skunked on and the 2 Feds yielded 5 40% and 1 1949 D Franklin.

I was tossing an idea around in my head. Wondering if any of us posting here are competing in the same areas searching for silver. My idea was, if any of us are searching in the same areas, maybe we could coordinate and use the same banks to dump at (or at least let the other person know where they are dumping at). I think it would be beneficial. First off we wouldn't be purchasing the others dump and spreading them all over the place to be bought by us again. And if we dumped at the same bank, they would be bagged up and shipped out quicker (so others don't spread them all over the place again). I was thinking that we could post the directional area of the state we live in, and go from there with PMs.

This is a very good idea. I've just started searching halves myself. Central San Joaquin Valley...California.

3 boxes searched today....

Havent ever been skunked by a Fed box and was skunked 2 today. Last box pulled a 68 and a 69.

Also pulled the following:
07 proof
2 04D
1 04P
2 05P
1 06D
2 07D
2 08D
1 09P & D

So with those, I'm only missing 6 coins since roll hunting starting in November.

Missing: 71, 72, 74, 76, and 97. Just kidding, missing are: 70D, 87D & P, 03D, 07P, and 08P

Picked up 2 boxes today. (Guarda- yellow & white wrappers)

One roll showed a 1969D Kennedy so I decided to open it first.
Besides the 69D, this was smack in the middle of the roll!

Needless to say, this just made my week-end!

This had to be put back into circulation recently.

*I'll post final 2 box totals later*

I search halves in my area banks (Olean NY), and it seems I've had a higher silver to crap ratio then some on here. I'd say 15 to 20 rolls in the last year or two (one here or there)requesting they're always hand rolled, no bank or fed. I've had one walking liberty, one 64 and 5 or 6 40%. But nothing like that Barber shown above. Great find there. I'm going to pick up a couple rolls next weekend...

The last few times I've been at the bank I've been asking the teller if they have any halves. I got $7.50 one time and $2.00 just today. There wasn't any silver, but at least I'm starting to fill the holes in my new Kennedy Whitman folders. I never find any halves in circulation, so I began my Kennedy collection with only having about three of them. (I did have both 1964s, though!)

I know you seasoned numismatists will appreciate the simple pleasures of a beginner. Filling those empty spaces is nearly as enjoyable as finding something valuable.

Hello,
I have a question about Kennedy coin albums.

I have done a little roll searching and have started to build up a Kennedy half collection from circulation as a go along. Right now I am putting them in a couple of the Whitman blue folders, but I don't like them as the coins fall out. I am thinking of getting a Dansco 8166 album - the one with proofs, as those turn up in rolls sometimes. Does anyone have one and if so do you like it? Is the are better, or equivalent but cheaper, choice out there?

Thanks for any advice.

As for your Whitman folders, the coins tend to fall out of the newer ones. The older ones (from 70's) tend to hold the coins better. Whitman also makes albums. If you want to go cheaper, I would look for used. You can check coin shops as they sometimes buy sets and remove the coins and sell the albums seperately. I've gotten some albums from used book shops. Also, there is ebay and the CCF buy, sell, trade section.

John Paul:
I started collecting halves a couple months ago. I have the Harris & Co. Coin Folders. While easy to put in and out I dont believe its the best option. My more experienced coin collector friend made a good point, all of his coins have 2 sides, not just one. With that said I just bought Dansco 8166 recently off of ebay. This includes all the years, along with spots for proofs and silver proofs. I feel that I have a pretty decent circulated set but am always looking to upgrade any half. I should be getting the album first part of this week and anxious to slide all my coins in...

Chuckster: Flippin sweet find on the Barber. I know plenty of us are still waiting for our first Barbers.

As for albums, I'm using an Intercept Shield album to build out my uncirculated Kennedy set. They hold the coins very nicely and look great.
