I found out why no silver for me since Aug. In June Brinks installed a coin counter that rejects the silver, just like the ones in the banks in my area.(Chicago) All incoming coins are going through the new counter before rolling. I was also told that all brinks will be doing this across the country soon. The information was given to me by the bank manager last week(who is a good friend and knew what I was doing) Brinks asked about the order of halves that was being placed every week and wanted to know if he knew what they were being used for. He told them coin searchers. He knew 4 guys besides me were doing this for a total of 10 boxes a week being ordered Their reply to him was if they were looking for silver brinks would get it before anyone else and told him of their new machine. Get it while you still can. I was thinking about throwing in the towel before this news and now its official. Was fun for the couple of years that I did this. Hope you all beat them to the silver while it is still getable in your area.

I must state I have had a really good week after the long skunk streak, I pulled 18 pieces of silver, 6-90%ers and 12-40%ers, 1-45 Walker, 2-Bennies1-57D and a 63, 3-64 Kennedys, 1-65, 2-66, 4-67, 2-68, and 3-69's. Also pulled my second 2018D, a GEM 87D, and a 1989 D Bicentennial of the Congress Commemorative. Great way to end a week.

Alwayswonder, Welcome, Ask any bank or Credit Union if they will order boxes of half dollars for you. You may have to open an account before they do it. Take a day and travel around your city to banks and credit unions and ask them if they have any half dollars for sale. I went to the bank with my father in-law today asked the teller if they had any half dollars and both tellers has some, One had one which is a 67 and the other teller only had clad ones which I did't purchase. Today I got 1-67. That is about it. Some individuals go to locations that have Coin Star machines and can purchase the half dollars bags from them. That is a bit more difficult to arrange. Hope this helps.

Regarding the info kfishdoctor provided the other day. I am a bit skeptical about what that bank manager told him. Is the bank manager trying to discourage folks like us with info that is not true. Are these coin wrapping facilities into hunting for silver ? Would it be cost effective for them ? I would imagine the machines they use are quite expensive. So we are to beleive these companies are replacing their current machines that are in working order with new ones just to pluck out some silver. IDK. If I use arby as an example he opens more boxes than anyone I Know personally or on this thread. Sometimes 20 30 40 boxes with no silver. I always thought that when the coins come to the facility if the persons working that particulay tour were hunters then no silver in the outgoing boxes. It would be nice th get info from the horses mouth someone that actually works at a facility. Just my Two Cents worth.

Cabo - I am very skeptical of this myself. Kfish - no knock towards you in any way.

With the amount of cash the armored carriers handle, I can't see them taking the time to pull what few silver coins that are in circulation, out of circulation. It would not be cost effective for them. I believe that coin roll searchers are pulling most of the silver left in circulation. Unless a manager is taking pulling them at the armored carrier, the typical teller doesn't have the time to dig for silver. The 'cages' or workstations are heavily guarded from all angles by multiple cameras.
I used to work for one of the largest international banks in the world that had many branches nationally, in some of the largest cities in the country. I worked in the vault services department and was responsible for placing cash/coin orders to and from the FED. The amount of volume for our bank alone was incredible. For example, we typically had around a million dollars in quarters alone for branch and commercial inventory, not to mention all of the other denominations. Outside vendor auditors would audit these vaults, but when the audit came due to be performed in the city I live near, another colleague and I would perform the audit. I saw firsthand the cash held for my bank and was amazed. Keep in mind, the armored carrier has multiple holdings for other financial Institutions as well. So , overall, there is a ton of cash flowing through the system. I knew the branch manager of the vault well, having dealt with him for years. I asked him as a collector, if tellers could swap out silver or old bills and he said most likely no, but rarely yes, in the case of very old currency. He explained that with the volume of cash/coin being processed it would be difficult to swap consistently. Plus, the tellers/processors cannot bring their personal cash/belongings into their workstation. They all have lockers where personal items are stored. Funny thing was, the teller next to the workstation we were auditing was processing commercial deposits and Dumped the deposit bag on the counter and I both heard and saw 3 silver halves hit the counter ,they were 40%. I cringed at not being able to get these and just watched the teller add these to a big bag of coin that would be sorted later and added. To that particular banks inventory. To this day I still think of those silvers
Ive been searching boxes for 14 years and have heard a few stories about how all the silver is pulled out before leaving the carrier vault. About 7 years ago, I ordered 10 boxes of halves from a bank I still order from today. The teller asked me if I ever found anything because the loomis delivery guy laughed and said I wouldn't since the tellers back at the vault pull all the silver. I ended up finding silver in 7 out of the 10 boxes.
I really think the silver is simply drying up as coinroll hunters have been pulling for years.
Kfish- maybe you could do is a huge favor just to test what you heard. Over the next how ever many weeks , order and search 10-20 boxes of dimes. If you find no silver, then yes, what you say may hold serious weight. This would be a true test since I usually can pull a silver dime or two out of most boxes. To get skunked on 20 dime boxes would definitely mean something is going on.
Sorry for the lengthy post - Happy hunting all

Hi Arby . Thank you for the information. I went to several banks the other day and asked if they had any , was told no by all. I didn't know about ordering them . Is this something they will do without giving me the run around ?
Happy New Year !

silver eagle I had the same thought. I got a box of dimes yesterday for something to do last night. The party at my house turns to cards at about 9 and I stay away due to my wifes family takes 5 dollar games serious. No silver I hate to report. I have had some luck in the past with dimes but I don't like to search them due to their size drives my eyes nuts. I will continue with a few more and see what happends. I hope your right and I'm wrong but I have no reason not to believe my friend unless he was fed a line. Even though things on my end have been bad I'm glad to see many of you continue to score some nice numbers. Happy new year to all!
