John Paul - I also find plenty of 1998. I probably had about 20 in the last box I went through and they are in very nice shape. AU ++ to BU. I don't bother keeping them though, or the NIFC I find. I would have a good $25 tied up in NIFC if I did.

SDcoinguy - round up some cash and go get everything they have, sooner or later they're going to figure out what you're up to and take a peak in those rolls themselves.

i have thought about that. I am not that worried. I just tell them I need them for the dates and that I am putting several books together.lol that might keep them busy. but you are absolutely right. and they actually have been rolling these themselves! so they probably have no clue! I need to get in there and get them all! but the wifey isn't thrilled about $$$. as long as I'm keeping it between 10 and 20$ shes happy. I would rather keep the wife happy then have her ticked all because of coins. plus, I have asked 2 tellers there now about people asking for halves and that told me I am the ONLY ONE. man I feel like I got all the time in the world! anyway, its been a lot of fun to say the least. Probably headed back there on Monday for a few more rolls. =D

stay tuned!

I just went through 15 rolls. Mostly 1971 D's...nothing exceptional, but it was fun.

Many half dollar roll searchers love to take road trips and stop at banks they've never been to before. It may not be long before somebody stumbles onto that bank. I would suggest grabbing all they have as soon as possible. And then keep checking back, because you can be assured that if somebody else finds that bank (and gets the silver), they will keep checking back. Some of us will use our mortgage money and replace it before the payment is due. (If we hit a big stash of silver we simply sell some of it to replace the mortgage money)

Try setting up a photobucket.com account and then you can link from your post to there, that's how many of us get the larger pix in here.

ratman,

the financial situation my wife and I are in, being newly marierd, new house, paying for college, eve en explained to my wife that it is just exchanging money for money, the time that it is out of the accnt does not rub my wife the right way. anyway, since the "bank" is a credit union, member owned, I do not have to worry about random people coming in. you must present your card or id to do business! awesome I know. anyway, much rather spend time with my wife than with coins...

I know that when I was roll hunting back in the late 70's when silver last peaked, 40%'ers were fairly common then too. The tellers were pulling the pre-65 halves because they weren't aware of the silver content of the 65-70 halves. 40% halves are the real "junk silver", although I just sold $190 face and got a real good price.

SDcoinguy - I can appreciate the wife being more important than the coins...good priorities.

My first 3 wives felt the same way...that's why they're outta here. (I kid)

But get that silver out sell some and turn it into MORE cash than she started with at 4-5x face and see how she feels about that? Here's hoping you don't have to learn to grab the silver right away the hard way.

This may be true. But, more and more people are starting to roll search halfs. I've seen alot more people posting here than a year ago. Also, some retired people only get checks at the first of the month and do their searching then. Like previously mentioned, the silver can be sold for a profit and the money can be put back into the account (and the profit can be used for further searching without taking money out of the account in the future) Your wife might go along with that! If not, I hope that nobody else finds your stash.

My wife works at a CU, they have sold halves to non-members. Actually they have sold some of my rolled dumps.

This is my first post, but I've been reading this thread for a while. I've pulled a 40% or two from a roll or some loose coin buys in the past 4 months - but until Friday had no reason to post. Stopped at a 5/3 bank on the way home on a whim, the teller had $29 in halves rolled (one $9 roll). I opened the $9 roll first - two 64's and two 68's. I was thrilled and didn't mind if the other $20 had no silver at all. However, roll 2 had three 64's and three more 40%'s. Roll three had three more 64's and five 40%'s!!

8 - 90% and 10 - 40% out of $29 face.

By far my best find yet. I'll be back in that bank next Friday.
