The bags that I purchase are counted, sealed and stored in the bank's vaults.

They are filled bags according to the denomination of the coins etc.

$1000.00 for Halves, $2000.00 for Quarters, $200.00 for Nickels, $50.00 for pennies etc.

Customers that dumped their coins into the machine on a daily basis filled the bags accordingly and now the banks are just keeping them on hold in their vaults until the day that they have scheduled for pick-up and new deliveries etc. from their armed carriers etc.

In the meantime, you ask if they have any FILLED bags on hold yet and if so , you buy the bag and or bags that you want prior to them being shipped.

Pretty simple concept and it works great!

so today I think I worked out a pretty sweet deal.

after calling my branch today to see if they had any halves, the teller told me that they had someone come in with "recycled" havles. I take it she was talking about another hunter dumping their clad. (most likely) this was also the bank that the day before had sold me $240 in H.F. Strings Co. bank rolled halves, which I found a %40.

so she goes on to tell me that she can order me a box, BUT I have to guarantee that I will take it because she does not want these halves sitting around. so, I went on to tell her that I cant guarantee the $500 at once, but I will be able to take it $100 at a time. (something my wife and I agreed on) she says, OK. just come by on this thursday. YES!! so I think I just scored my first "box". I just have to do it in increments. lets hope that they save me that whole box!

good luck on that SD......I think once you show a consistency of picking up your $100 parts, they'll work with you pretty well.

What a wonderful contrast we've got going here. We've got SDcoinguy, who's buying 10 rolls at a time, and we've got CoinMania, who's buying 10 boxes at a time. And in the middle, someplace, there's the rest of us...

I just finished my last 10 rolls of my box of halves and got 1 40%, so SD coinguy, my bank did work well with me on that.
And Chuckster, you have really inspired me to search for some DDO / DDRs with your nice finds and I have been looking hard and think I found a 1972-d DDO, there is definite notching on some letters although not widespread so I don't know if it significant or not but at least I know now what to look for and I believe it is easier to spot now. I'll try to post photos although my camera isn't that great( along with my photography skills).
I also found a Kennedy/Lincoln Half counter stamp. I know Ratman or Chuckster has posted some before, does anyone know what company/organization did those? Just kinda curious.
Congrats XOG on the haul!
And Eddispin, if I had to pick an asylum, it would be here...
where we all just kinda .......happy....

Chuckster - which banks by you will sell you the $1,000 bags? I have also had no luck with TD bank bags, but did get my 70-D from a teller tray there. I dump at TD bank and it is very annoying that I have to wait while they empty the bags. I've also tried dumping at Beneficial, since their coin counting machine doesn't need the bag changed every $100. Their bags seem to hold at least $500 worth of halves. They have become a little rude recently since I don't have an account, but I also think they were hit by the people buying dollar coins on the U.S. mint website then dumping them there.

Sorry, and not meaning to offend you or anyone else on these boards, but I'm not willing to divulge my source.

I don't want any other competition for these bags etc. I hope you understand my reasoning.

so when I go to my bank and ask for halves, they say they have about $1000, but when they bring them out they are wrapped in briwn paper bag type paper that say plainly, $10 Halves $10,

not like the h.f. strings wrapped. so does this mean they are recycled or customer wrapped?

SD - my biggest silver hit was from customer wrapped. $100 had 156 90%ers in it.

You need to buy a few to check.

Well I had a bit of luck today. Out of 2 boxes:

box 1 - 1 90%, 3 40%, all kennedys
box 2 - 3 90%, 5 40%, 3 nifc and an 82-p no fg (well, no f and very weak g on an au coin).

I also just read that the 72-d has a no fg variety - I probably have thrown a bunch of them back already - you know how common that date is.
