SD, just order as many boxes as you can. from there find out which ones yield the most silver and go with those :D

i am almost contemplating giving up roll hunting all together
why?
well I find that the dumping is the hardest part. today, I was making my round to dump $50 or so in pennies. B of A now chargers for coin transactions and Chase today mentioned something about a fee when doing coin transactions too.
coin hunting is fun, when your hunting. but when you have to get rid of all that coin, wheather it be pennies or halves, it just puts a damper on my mood about half way through. " how will I get rid of this" " will the tellers be ticked"
i know those are minor excuses, but I just dont find it fun anymore. dont get me wrong I DREAM of hitting it big in halves or find some nice BU cents, or some rossies. but getting rid of it has become all but easy.
i know there is coinstars out there, but I am not about to pay 8-10% fee. anyway. guess I will try and stick to coin shops and other deals

SDcoinguy - maybe look around at credit unions with coin counter machines. They are usually a lot more customer-friendly, being non-profit and all. Mine has no charge for customer coins.
I also have a vault manager at a bank who is more than happy to swap my boxes of searched coins for any fresh ones she has in the vault. I always call first to make sure she's there, because her back-up is not helpful at all.
I think you need to keep searching and you'll find the right situation.

I find that the tellers are fine taking back $1000 back at a time. If you give them less than that then they have to hold them in the vault until they get $1000 to sell them to brinks/loomis/garda. If you really want to piss them off give them back $950.
All customer rolls today 0 silver.

Dumping coins does get tedious, depending on the volume. Luckily, I have many banks in my area and have savings/checking accounts at four of them. I only dump at one bank and try to go to a different location each week. Also, I pay my credit card bills and monthly car loan in halves when possible to banks that I don't have basic accounts with. I have a Bank of America credit card, and put my basic large purchases on it: groceries, gas, car insurance, utilities, etc. I pay it off in full every month in halves and they have never charged me any coin related fees. Sometimes, I make my mortgage payment in halves, this is an easy way to dump $1000+ in halves every month. You may get the occasional teller that is irritated, but I remain courteous and friendly. It helps to develop a future relationship that could lead to future silver coins.
On another note - I went throgh my usual 2 Loomis boxes yesterday and found 1 40% in each.

Happy Easter to all!  I have been sitting back and reading posts about what a pain it is to dump all those coins, especially with the low turn out of silver nowadays. I do agree with that but some of you might kinda enjoy a slightly different idea, one that I have been doing with moderate sucess keeping me in the roll hunting mode. Along with getting customer rolls when I can find them, although not more than 50 or 60 dollars at a time (easier to dump) I have been asking small convenience stores, or liquor stores for fun. Believe it or not around here at least, they have all had something. Granted not always silver, but some have Ikes, or clad kennedys ( I have been looking for double dies and varieties so clad is ok) but I was so excited to get 2 64's the other day, one a beautiful toned kennedy!  I will post pics in a little while, got to go now...Just something to think about!  |

i agree SD it does get tedious and I do catch some flak at the dump banks but if you have an account with them whats the big deal? they are your bank, you have the money with them, so don't feel like you should feel guilty about dumping there. I have seen my fair share of irritated tellers but I remind myself that that is there job so... yea.
I for one don't dump halves at the TD Bank around here. For one the bags in there counter only allow 100 dollars of halves to go in and the machine jams up with the halves. So I just leave the coin counter for my copper searching.
SD another avenue you might want to pursue is the dime searching. My friend who has been getting me a lot of silver works as a cashier at a convenience store. He consistently finds silver dimes in his rolls. In the coming weeks I plan on investigating this because his finds rates seem fairly decent... at least more decent than halves haha.

Well it finally stopped....
I was up to 9 1/2 boxes of nothing and then pulled a '63 Benny and a '68. That was the longest "no silver" drought that I had. Was nearly 3 weeks long...

take your coins to the casino if there is one near by. casinos have no problem taking coins in. just go to any cashiers cage and give them your coins unrolled. it dosent matter if is $20 or $2500 they will happily take them all for free.

I just picked up $900 in fed wrapped rolls and ended up with 71 40% and 1 90%. I will pick up to brinks boxes on Wednesday. Last week's weren't too bad.
