When they ask why I need halves, I usually tell them they're going to be used in a money lei for an anniversary, wedding, graduation...etc. they'll usually ask me for more details, like how we make them. I used to get money leis when I was graduating high school and stuff. They usually think it's cool and will try to find what they can. Of course, out by bme, all the banks seemed to have dried up until today. Never tried banks I don't have accounts at though. May have to give that a try. Worst thing that can happen is they say no. Or I end up opening an account at B of A (blech)

Luck is pretty much the deciding factor. I try every bank I see. I have had only 3 banks out of probably the 40 or so I have been to deny me. Rather small percentage as most are willing to get rid of them or to help you out!

well, I am starting to map out my route for after work today on which banks to hit.. so far in a 6 mile radius from my work to my house, I have: 23 banks to hit. I hope this wont take too long. 1 hr maybe? I'm guessing you guys look through some of the halves in your car on the way to the next bank? I'm planning on taking $500 with me. with my luck, I will either be turned away by all or get $500 skunks on my first try at the first bank.. another question.. when a teller says " yes, we have halves, a customer just brought in a BUNCH..." do you avoid those or take them.. most likely it was someone else's dump, no?

i think you have to just take your chances. it could be someone's dump, or it could be grandma's stash that little johnny ignoramus found and is cashing in. even if it is someone's dump, at least you won't be out any money, you'll just have to find a quick dump location.

Motos I was reading a your posts from a few pages back and I'm sure we have to be in the same neck of the woods! I hail from Western Mass also...West Springfield. I dont know of many webster banks out side of the Greater Springfield Radius. Where abouts are you in W. Mass, I'm assuming also Greater Springfield Metro area?

well, as I bet you are all dying to know how I did?
it took me about 2 hrs after I left work but I got it done!
i hit about 15 banks, and only came up with $45 in loose halves! half the banks had ZERO...
the last stop said we have $500, do you want those? HELLL yes I do.. at this point I was thinking it was my lucky day, seeing as I have been all over oceanside and back for the last 2 hrs and found a measly $40...like I said guys, no CRWs here...
so open observation of the box, already opened, all PREmarked! son of a $%#@*..
at this point, I am about to give up completely. as you can see, there is nothing out here! everyone seems to be looking. the only chance I have is buying a box and maybe getting 1 or 2... maybe
so upon defeat, I settled for my $150 in CRW dimes... scored a 64-d in 4 minutes.....lol

man, I havent posted in thsi thread for a while because I havent found any silver for over 7 months!! I have probably searched 15 boxes plus all the spares I could find. My parents wont take me to the bank any more , cause they think its a waste of time:). Has a drought ever happened to any of you guys for this long? Its really annoying now.

SD: It's great you have so many banks! It's too bad you didn't have luck though. What I would do in your situation is to try out my idea of the FIFO method that brinks might use. Start ordering boxes like a mad person. Keep going till you hit the old boxes. Or just stick to dimes!
Cashgardner: Good to see a fellow WMass person! I am from the Westfield area and there is a Webster bank right here in Westfield. Now I guess a good thing to do would be exchange details. I search Westfield regularly and dump at the People's Bank there. I occasionally hit up Southwick, Southampton, Easthampton, Holyoke, and just the other day West Springfield banks. Where do you search and dump?
