Too bad that we do not come across silver Kennedys is San Diego. That is just about all my daughter needs for her collection.

So I decided to "help" her by buying about 5 or 6 silvers that I plan on slipping one in her rolls every now and then, maybe every couple times we pick some up from the bank. This should make the roll searching very enjoyable for her. LOL

Hopefully it will help drive home the concept of "getting rewarded for your work" as well.

I just moved to the LA CA area. I hope this area is not dry of silver... I'm trying to convince the bank that they can order halfs for me. They will let me know tomorrow if they can.

Totals from my second box were a 1951 Franklin, 1940-S Walker, 2- 1966 40%, 1 each 1967 and 1969-D 40% and several NIFC...2006, 2009 etc. Bicentenials outnumbered all other dates by a wide margin but I didnt get any whole rolls of them. Ordering a third box...

I am new to posting here, but I have read about 80% of this posting. I have learned much about roll searching but also coin collecting in general, thank you.

Searched my first box last week and found 7 40% Kennedys and 4 NIFC. Unknown if I missed proofs as I have some difficulty identifying them (other than the obvious shiny new ones). 2 boxes are coming Thursday. I also searched 39 rolls but all were someone's dumps.

I am looking for some opinions regarding buying a bank bag. Today at the bank, my dump filled the coin machine's bag. The lady who changed the bag (not a teller, someone from an office) came out and when changing the half dollar bag said "I have never seen one of these full before." It was a $1000 fed bag - I even had some conversation with her about the bag that verified it was a fed bag. I only put $590 in the machine, and it appears it is rare that it is full. Should I ask to buy the bag from them? I don't want to search $590 of coin already searched, but the $410 from elsewhere is tempting. Just curious what experienced people think.

Also, those of you that buy the $1000 bag, does your bank order them for you?

I don't usually get to visit the banks near my home since I leave home before 8:30 and return after 4:30. However, I had to run home over lunch today, so I stopped in at the corner bank near my house. I got a teller who was very young. I asked if they had any rolls of half dollars. He seemed puzzled like he wasn't sure what a half dollar was. He initially said no, but then checked some drawer down below his station and said he found a few. He put one on the counter and asked, "Is this what you're looking for?" It made a little "plink" sound and was shiny and new looking. The date "1964" was facing me directly. I am convinced he was just getting me to verify that this coin was actually the kind of half dollar I was talking about. I do not believe he had any idea the significance of that particular coin. Trying to hide my surprise and glee, I said, yes, that was what I was looking for. I said I would take all he had. He pulled out the rest, which turned out to be 19 coins, and got two from the other teller. I ended up with 21 halves. 7 were 1964s, 12 were later-60s, and two were "commons." Most of the silvers, including all the 64s, were in really good shape. I think the commons were from the other teller. I have no idea why he had a tray full of silver, but I am not complaining.

I dropped in three or four other banks on the way back to work and picked up 4 or 5 more 40%ers. I got 9 rolls at one bank and they were all 2009-P and D. Weird. I am not sure what to do with those.

How cool! I just ordered 2 boxes but I'm now living in a new part if the country and hope this area has more silver! I'll post more when I get them home! Good thing you were able to convince that young teller what a half is. I normally ask if they have any wired stuff and buy it all. You never know what they may have.

hey SD, what areas do you usually hunt? i'll be in san diego for comic con for 4 days and i'll do some hunting while I'm there. I just don't want to waste my time if all i'll be doing is picking through your trash. i'll be staying in mission bay, and throughout the gaslamp/downtown area.
