It was a good day for me. Went to the bank to pay a bill and asked for half dollars. Teller said she had $530.00 worth and as it so happened I had enough cash on me to buy them all. As I was finishing paying for them I also saw in her coin rack a 1964 silver quarter which I got as well. Most of the coins were someone elses rejects but I pulled out a complete roll of 40% silver with the dates 1965 and 1966 (that was actually put together by someone who had written on the outside of the roll with the dates) plus some other bu coins in the other 52 rolls I searched. To top it off I went to a different bank to make a deposit and got another 40% silver from a group of $7.00 worth of loose halves. Need more of these! Sincerely, John Leckrone

Recently got back into roll hunting (again). Moved since last time, boy I miss my old back. I'm with US Bank now and it's irritating that they require name and phone number on every roll of coin you turn in. My local branch the vault manager told me last week that she'd save 1/2's for me. Go in today to get my box of nickles and see that she has some loose 1/2s in her tray. Ask to buy them and she says "I save them for my son's allowance". About $3 in halves and I know at least 4 were silver.. grr

Searched the box of nickles and dropped them off at another US Bank branch, of course asked if they had any 1/2's. She says yes, $20 worth. Older CWR netted 2 40% in the second roll. Still miss the Chase that I used to use that saved 1/2's for me and other coins in "old" wrappers plus the First Federal with the coin counter in the lobby. Feels like I moved to a bad coin searching area with all these low volume banks :(

I know the feeling... I am in a new area and I have not been having any good luck. Maybe if I stick with it things may pay off. I maybe get 1 40% a week. I might just give up also and buy coins...

I went a little bit out of my way this morning to visit a local bank in a nearby community. They had $620 in CWR and I bought $350 worth, which was all the cash I had on me. The rolls produced:

6 x 90% (1964)
49 x 40% (including one silver 1976-S)

Two of the rolls were nothing but silver. The wrappers on those two rolls were from a predecessor bank that merged away long ago. My favorite kind of wrapper.

I expect I will go back for the remaining $270 soon.

Today I scrounged around several bank branches in my area. Most banks I stopped at just had loose. I bought all I found and got no silver. Then stopped by a branch of my bank where they had $100 in the vault. I grabbed it and went to the car only to see that the wraps were all marked. I checked all 10 rolls anyways just "in case" and got no silver. Walked right back in and told them they could have it back LOL.

One last bank on the way home and I figure it's worth a shot. Stop in and ask for 1/2s and the teller says that there are some in the vault. I'm thinking that on the main highway with a major named bank it's probably just junk. She walks up to the vault manager and asks him for the 1/2s in the vault and he says that he just shipped them back the other day because they were sitting there "forever". Now I'm down with visions of pure silver rolls floating through my head.

He turns to me and says he's got some 1/2s in his drawer and I can have them, so I say sure. He hands the teller an envelope with $7 in 1/2s in it. She pours them out (out of my sight), but I hear what sounds like silver.

I ended up with 3 40%ers out of 14 coins. In a way happy that I at least scored some silver today, but wondering what was in the rolls that they shipped back!

$110 in CWR this morning.

3 x 90% (1-'63, 2-'64)
11x 40%

Also 44 Ikes (to add to 1,015 Ikes last week). Not sure what I am going to do with all those, but I can't pass them up.

I also picked up $100 in Brinks rolls, but I haven't opened them and am not expecting much.

Got 2 more boxes today and was surprised at what I found... A whopping 3 40%'ers! Made me happy at least, better than the 1 40%'er yesterday. Finally coming outta this horrific dry spell!
