How do I tell if the 2004-S I found is silver? Weight? Again, let me say---why not keep the NIFC's? It's not like you're throwing them away---they are still gonna be worth (at least) 50 cents now and forever. So, unless your house is about to be repo'd you have nothing to lose by just hanging on to them. If you want to spend them later, you always can! Weighing the '04-S is the sure fire way to tell, but the silver ones edge will look just like a '64---no copper layer. Happy searching! |

Or toss the NIFC's back into the pool for the rest of us!  I've got lots of NIFC holes I'm filling (very slowly) by roll-searching. You're right though, they don't seem to bring much of a premium on eBay-- which makes them not too attractive to buyers (nothing like spending 75c on a coin and then tacking on $3 for shipping...). |

Haven't posted in awhile, but still searching through boxes. I had two nice boxes 3 weeks ago: Box 1 - 3 Franklins, 5 1964 JFK and 10 40% JFK. Box 2 - 6 1964 JFK, 6 40% JFK. Last week was slow though - out of 4 boxes I only pulled 1 40% silver. I picked up another 4 boxes yesterday and so far am skunked on 3 of them.  Last weekend when dumping the skunk boxes off at another bank I did manage to score 1 1964 and 2 40% silvers from a roll at my dump bank. I cant wait to break out of this slump, we'll see what comes in this weeks boxes. Happy Thanksgiving to all!  |

Curious about 2 things:
-In my very very limited experience - customer hand rolled coins have worked out better. What's the concensus for those of you that have searched through hundreds of boxes?
-Does the bank rolling machine cause those round cuts on the ends of some halves?

Box 1 - 1960,1962 Franklin 1964 JFK, 6 40%ers
Box 2 - Skunked
Box 3 - Skunked
Box 4 - 2 40%ers
Box 5 - 3 40%ers
Box 6 - 5 40%ers
Box 7 - Skunked
Box 8 - 1964 Kennedy, 3 40%ers

Does anyone suggest a bank branch that has the best finds? I ordered my first box from BofA and received it yesterday. All I found was 4 NIFC. No silver. As far as I am concerned, it was a skunk box.
It seems that the Chase banks in my area carry a few rolls including customer rolled in which I have found a few silvers.

Russ, I get all of my coins from Wachovia. They have worked the best for not only halves, but dimes and cents as well. I think my finds are pretty much average with everyone else. Oddly enough, one teller at the BofA branch in my area told me that she couldn't even order boxes of halves.  If you are having good luck with the customer rolled halves from Chase, then maybe it's time for a road trip to pick up a few more?  |

Doesn't look like I have any Wachovia branches in my area however I do have some Wells Fargos. Sounds like I might have to make an appearance and see if they have any rolls. I freakin hate Chase bank! However, they are on pretty much every corner near me. With customer rolls, you are just at the mercy of them bringing them in. I found 3 customer rolls at a BofA near me last night that had nothing! However, the teller was glad to hand them over! I dumped $800 of clad halves in a Capitol One coin counter this morning! lol
Am interested in hearing from others on this forum to see where they are having the best luck.

Back at it again...
30 bank-rolled plus one customer rolled.
Nothing fm the customer one, but the bank rolls yielded 1 '64, plus 3 40%s! (1:150... not bad)
Do most of you also search dimes? Haven't tried them yet - could be fun...?

yeah dimes are fun. I can't speak for anyone else but I search both.
btw...I've done a good bit of BoA boxes and I think you're only going to get skunked on them. I might try a few more in a month and see what it yields.

On average, when I roll hunt dimes, I get about 1 per box. It helps if they all come in the clear plastic wrappers so you can rim search without having to open them and re-roll.

nvest, try some CWRs, too. I find on avrg. you get better yields with them--slightly better, that is.

halfway done with my 3 boxes, and I've done alright! Got 2 40% and 2 NIFC, along with a worn 1976-S. The best find was a 1974-D DDO (posted in the error forum)! Let's see what the rest of those boxes hold! |
