Well....I opened an account today at Chase. <gulp> Branch manager said my first box of halves would be in on Wednesday. Oh, apparently I have to do direct deposit to keep my account free. I hope an ACH transfer from an online bank works. ;-)

oh... hmmm so maybe my bank switched up providers because I was getting some sweet finds for three straight weeks.

yeah I think you're right russ. how can we find out which banks use which providers...I'm assuming if we ask the banks they'll think we're bank robbers.

I've actually asked several tellers about where they get their coins from, and who ships them to the bank. I've had several tellers just politely tell me we cannot reveal that information, others seemed a bit thrown aback by me asking. Of course they never reveal their uber secrets. Obla - I call boxes that have loads of silver "Mega Boxes".  Edited by Deltron

I was emailing my account guy at Cap One today about the coin machine. It has been broken/fixed/broken...vicious cycle. Anyway, he said it was working but "out of order" until Brinks emptied it. I don't think it's a secret what armored car service banks use but lets be honest most tellers aren't the brightest bulbs in the box. No offense...

so deltron, do you think it's sort of the norm to have a box here or there that's loaded with droughts in between? I'm getting a little worried after todays find.

It's normal for me at least. I've only been doing this for about 7-8 months, but I had better luck in the beginning IMO. I was pulling 4/5 each box back then and a lot of 90%. Recently I've been getting only one or two each week, usually with a 2-3 week dry spell in between. Been considering trying my luck with another bank, but haven't found the time to open any accounts.

yeah I've only just started about 2 months ago. I started out finding nothing and got sick of looking, then by chance came across a good box, which tempted me to do more, and here we are repeating the vicious cycle.

That S & Son website is interesting. It appears they dont put the boxes together... but just supply the paper/boxes. Does that mean those banks that uses them roll in house?

I have seen many forum members mention wrapper brands as if they were the company who packaged and distributed the coins. Brinks and Loomis I believe are the largest cash distribution companies out there. Now, whether they actually rolls loose coins or not I don't know. They could simply do distribution.

Wish we could find some definitive answers as to how the whole process works and which companies are involved. Would love to find out where my halves are coming from.
