also, I'm starting to think there might be a correlation between large orders and skunk boxes. don't know how there would be, but anyhow...

oblakavshtanax...it is the luck of the draw, plain and simple. The only thing that could possibly change the amount of silver is this time of year and more people turning it in. However, you have no idea when those coins will cycle back into circulation (bank boxes), especially half dollars. Banks hate having half dollars on hand and ship them off asap.

Yep, stinker boxes seem to run in packs. I picked up 16 more boxes today and sofar 10 boxes have yielded just a bunch of NIFC's, 2 Franklins, 3 64's and 6 40%ers. Those all came from just 3 boxes, the others at best had just NIFC. Getting enough of those NIFC coins ('02 - '10) to have to figure where to get rid of them. 6 more boxes to do tomorrow and 10 more on wednesday, with 16 more ordered for monday.
I didn't see any "mega boxes" or for that matter any showing any silver on the ends in this batch. At this rate I will hit $50k searched pretty quickly... Don't know how many skunkers I would search before I gave in though... Hoping to find more for stocking stuffers.

You know I have to question the NIFC coins. I find quite a few of them. Are they really goign to be worth holding on to? I mean if they are on the rare side then why to I find so many? I have not found a 1987 yet, that is a rare coin to me. I love it when you get hold of a hot box.

Yes, they are really the rarest of all the Kennedys, minted in MUCH lower numbers than the ones intended for circulation. I've said it once and I'll say it again---why not keep them? They're not worth a whole lot right now (prolly about a dollar or so), but if they are AU or especially near MS condition, you have nothing to lose by just keeping them, unless you REALLY need the money, right? However, if the ones I find are less than AU and beat up, I usually dump them--- |

I agree with Ferdy...just hold onto the NIFC if in good shape. You paid 50 cents for the coin and it will never go down in value.

I've been saving the NIFC when it good shape. I got some of those square coin tubes and I'm thinking of just using one for each date, etc.

it's funny achild,
my mega box actually had no silvers on the ends. I thought it was going to be a bad one, because it had mostly 1990s etc on the ends, but lo and behold, there was only like one roll in the box that didn't have a 90 percenter in it.

Some days chicken, some days feathers I reckon.
I just finished up the last 6 boxes of this 16 box batch (also picked up 29 rolls today with zilch to show for it) and only found 2 40%ers and a couple NIFC. Not very encouraged by the sparse pickings but I have 10 more to pick up tomorrow and at least 16 more on Monday. Hope for some interesting silver finds for the kids stockings. I already alotted some NIFC in birthdate years for the grand kids stockings...

In my opinion those bags that go back to the Fed to be re-rolled, first in first out. So unless you dig below a certain level you will eventually get your same coin back.
2 boxes yesterday, 1 skunk and the other produced 2 40%ers.

HalfCrazy...the Fed is not the only "company" out there that distributes coins. They compete with Brinks/Dunbar/Loomis, etc.
