I went to a bank yesterday that I have been eyeballing. The guy had 2 halves, 1 1965. I was very happy with that. He should have just handed me $4 and sent me on my way. Picking a box up tonight. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

A couple of you have mentioned the dry spell on boxes as of late. Have you thought of this... I get my 2 boxes a week from Wells. I also return the Wells, different branch. I know that they dont roll them, they bag it and send it back to the Fed to be rolled. I'm confident that I have gotten back some of what I have searched already. There was one box that I go that someone painted one side of the coin a gold color. Couple months later, got the same coins back. However, timing is everything. Someone could dump grandmas big Coors Lite glass bottle that she has saved coins in for years and may hold 10 to 20 pieces of silver in them and dumps into what you have as a dump. I also believe that the boxed "stock" is not rotated. Its not like boxes of halves age. So as they are rolled and boxed they are put right on the top again. Just my 2 cents, or 50c on the topic....  |

Wells Fargo sends their coins to Brinks to be rolled.....and then the gals at Brinks take all the silver out.....  |

are brinks halves boxes really that bad on avrg?
i ask because I just ordered about 20 or so boxes. anyone have some experience with this?

Well this is day two of my small adventure. I went out and opened 2 more accounts since the one yesterday lied to me and wont order me halves. so both banks today ordered me some for next week. so I decided to go to a bank across from the other one and see if they have halves in the vault. I dont have a account there. they gave me 21 rolls.. I got one 64, 3 67s, and 1 68. I was really happy about that.. I'm still trying to figure out how you attach a pic on this forum..

also, russ, do you mean wachovia or an actual wells fargo bank?
i know wachovia is owned by wells now but I mean which of the two bank 'titles', if you will, is it where you are?

Wells. I think all of the Wachovia's by me turned into Wells Fargo.

Wachovias near me will become Wells Fargos in early March.
I would assume Wells Fargos would ship out to Loomis, considering their old name, Loomis Fargo.
Obla - the boxes in my area are totally dry. I don't even bother at this point, especially since I hand-reroll as I don't belong to a bank with a counter, and don't want to have to start an account (or let one of the 'free counting for anyone' banks to catch wind I am not, and never have been, their customer!)
I guess your area is lucky when it comes to boxes. Maybe our lucky streaks will switch one day. Hopefully they'll not just switch, but double up! :-)

ok well if the rolls say brinks then can I safely assume loomis hasn't gotten their grubby hands on it? or could it just be brinks wrappers?

I have never seen a wrapper or box for that matter that has the armored carrier's name on it. However, I did get some boxes that were from Dunbar b/c they used security tape on the boxes.

i get boxes all the time that have wrappers inside them that say brinks...they just aren't halves.

could someone please explain nifc a little for me. I know what it stands for but to what extent. are they worth much. how do you know if you have one. and is it set dates. thanks

Speaking of Wells Fargo, a funny thing happened with the new year. I noticed that they no longer have the yellow String and Son rolls (my favorite). The two boxes I picked up yesterday contained Loomis rolls. So far they have not been kind for silver - just several NIFC's. Makes you wonder if they switched with the new year or this happens all the time.
I'm pretty satisfied with my system - 3 pickup locations and 3 dump locations. If I am not feeling it at one place, I can pickup boxes from the other two and usually land some silver.

NIFC - Not Intended for Circulation. 1987 P&D and 2002-present P&D. Some also consider 2001-D to be NIFC, and by extension, I suppose even 1970-D could be as well, although its silver and numismatic value make irrelevant such a designation.
This does not necessarily mean "only issued in mint sets". Mint rolls and bags are still available for halves, and I have found about $100 in mint-rolled halves in circulation.
