man, deltron, when was the last time you got a good batch? it seems like every time I check on here you've got another bunch of skunks.

you've got the same coin service that I have, so I wonder why there's such a disparity between your finds and mine.

You must've missed my second to last post in this thread. I picked up 4 boxes 1 week ago and scored I think 58 silvers. 22 90% and 36 40%. That was my last good find and all prior to that was like 1 or 2 40%. It's back to the crappy boxes I guess, lol.

I have been through 10 rolls now, with no keepers to show for it. I realize 200 coins is nothing for some of you, but I am on a budget here!

The first thing I noticed is that a roll without a bicentennial coin is a rarity.

I finished searching 4 boxes last night - 0 silver again.

The futility is becoming nothing short of astonishing. Over my last 20 boxes (20,000 half dollars), I have found exactly 1 silver half dollar. This is especially amazing given my experience prior. I have a few ideas why it may be happening (more roll searchers getting them before they are shipped out from banks, pilfering by the coin processing employees and loads of dumps by roll searchers), but nonetheless, I may soon stop searching the boxes. The dumping is too much of a pain when you are getting nothing.

Russ - Couldn't agree more! Melt the 76's and those pesky 71's, find WAY too many of both.

Nobis - I hear ya man, I was doing 4-6 boxes for the longest time each week until I just had enough. Dumping all those coins was too much of a hassle, especially when your doing all this footwork for nothing. Just keep it to 1 or 2 boxes per week and it will be much easier on you. I also get coins delivered by Garda and have had many dry streaks with some occasional silvers sprinkled in. Last week was my first and probably last mega find, for now it's back to getting impaired proofs and 1 40% every other week... lol

if you guys supplemented with 1-2 boxes or $500 crw of dimes, you would at least be finding an equivilant to half ounce of silver...just throwing it out there

Long time reader, with few posts... My wife surprised me for Christmas with a box of half dollars. We have been casually searching for about a year and a half - both ordered boxes and CWR. We have probably only searched about $15k to $20k in halves and have had mixed results, but we both think it can be fun and frustrating. I joked with her that my Christmas box would be lucky as it was from "Santa" and we both laughed expecting a skunk. I was totally shocked when I found (192) 1987 halves. I didn't count / sort by mint mark, but most of these appear to be in really good shape. In all our searching I have only found (1) really beat up 87. Any advice on the best was to sell some of these and what a fair price would be?

I have not found a 1987 yet. I did get $24 yesterday and there was 1 40%er in the lot. I wish my boxes would go that well. I am happy for you tlasko.

SD - I am with you man. Today while making a deposit at the bank I got a box of dimes. In addition, I have two waiting for me at another bank that were ordered for me. To meet my silver fix I am changing my strategy somewhat - we shall see how it works.

Obla - Customer deposits/CWR's are the way to go. A while back, I had a sizable silver find, including seventeen Morgans, from a customer dump. https://goccf.com/t/54068

They ARE out there. I hit dozens of banks in the run-up to the new year. I had some time off, and decided to put it to use silver hunting. If you put the time in, and fortune is on your side, you will find the silver. This may not be profitable for some, due to simple bad fortune, or lack of time (as I now know since work started again.) But there are killer coins out there.

I actually ran into another hunter in line right behind me once, and she (yes, a she!) showed me a Peace dollar she had found earlier in her hunt. I have also read on this forum about ASE's being found, and of course, the 12 or so double eagles that were cashed in a few years ago. (Granted, they were stolen, but it proves that it is possible for them to recirculate.)

There is a LOT that can top finding Morgans - and not necessarily some freak gold piece that snuck through. Last week, a teller sold me Canadian Toonies and a 1901 UK large penny for 50c each, somehow rationalizing 50c as a 'fair' price for coin-counter rejects. I still don't understand, but why argue it?

I can easily see another teller thinking, why not sell me another "un-American" coin for that flat rate? How about a "worthless" Trade dollar? What the heck is a "Trade" dollar? This is fake... take it! Or how about a 20-cent piece? Come on, this can't possibly be American! Take it!

A teller that I know shot me an email that an old guy had brought in 14 rolls of halves if I wanted them. Can you imagine the excitement? Got the rolls today and found 2-40%. It's not the mother lode but it's better than nothing. Dumped the other $139 in a Capital One coin machine.

First time ever posting. I have been following this forum for a few weeks. Its really exciting reading all this. Today I went and opened a new bank account and asked if I can order 1k of halves a week. They sais yes but you cant have any till next week. I asked you have any halves now. They gave me 21 rolls out of the vault. I figured it would be all sorted. First roll I got one 64 half. I was soo stooked lol. Then no more. But the rush was awesome. Getting 1k tomorrow at my wifes bank. I Cant Wait lol..

Last 400 in String and Son rolls for 2010 yielded 2 40% and 2 NIFC.

First box of 2011 (Loomis) yielded one 2001S (clad- drop test), and 2004D, 2005D, 2008D. The 2008D happens to have a super low mintage of only 1.8 million so I really lucked out there!

i don't know, mecapri.

every two-three weeks I find a box or two with about 8-1200 dollars worth in silver. I still roll hunt, too, but I might get like 100 dollars worth of silver, and I mean I'm really assiduous about it. I've been to hundreds of banks.

i think it more depends on where you are.
