to the Forum and CONGRATS on your great haul on your first attempt! To find even on 90%er is pretty good these days, but for you to corral 9 is amazing.

phil5280: It's just luck- nothing I'm doing that would make more Walker's be in these boxes- that's for sure! I've also found over 10 Barber Halfs in the past 2 yrs that I've been doing halfs- again its just plain luck! * SILVER today just hit $40.21 as of 9.14AM NY SPOT!

So I've been noticing a disturbing trend. Sealed boxes of halves containing searched rolls. These rolls are marked with lines down the side, ends folded over. Obviously, not machine rolled. Today I stopped by two banks to pick up weekly boxes and both were like this. I'm guessing these rolls are ones that other searchers are dumping and the banks are shipping them out, and than strings & sons is just sticking them back into boxes without re-rolling. This sucks! Anyone else noticing this?

mad258: Thanks for the welcome. I've been working my way backwards through this thread so as soon as I found that first 90% I knew it was a lucky haul for these days. I just hope it doesn't ruin sorting for me when I get a box that only have a 40%
I started moving "forward" through the thread a little more and I did find an interesting thing. There is a guy from this website, that lives in Dallas, that on page 10 said that he was getting annoyed by a local sorter that kept spotting Kennedy's ear with a black magic marker. I guess that is the guy that marked mine -- like a where's george for half dollars.
Anyway, any advice on if there are any halves from 1971-2000 that are worth pulling out? I only sorted by date and looking to see if any had an S on them. It looks like there's not anything worth pulling unless I want to make a collection.

1987 halves weren't intended for circulation; they only came in mint sets. Also, you can look out for silver proofs from the Bicentennial and every year since 1992.

I didn't order any boxs in the last two weeks. Found sivers during bank visits. 1, 4/9/11 Four 40% in 9.5 dollars loose from one bank. 2, 4/8/11 1 64 and 43 from $110 rolls. 3, 4/6/11 16 40% from 8 dollars loose, yes 100%

Opened an account at US Bank today. Explained that for various reasons I was upset with my bank at the time and was specifically choosing US Bank because of access to the coin counter and that I'd close all my accounts and go elsewhere the first time some teller gave me grief about dumping. I explained that I could just start somewhere else if that would be a problem. Spoke with a couple desk-people and a real branch manager and everyone said they would welcome my business. So I will see if I have a nice place to dump!

Well, in about 10 rolls I checked there were 3 1964, 7 1965-1969 and the rest just afterwords with a few bicentennials. One 'thing' I did get when purchasing some 'junk' silver Kennedy halves was a Kennedy 1964 on the front with a Franklin reverse. A very good fake but with no cut marks etc.
