Here is what I do:
I went to YellowPages.com, typed in "banks", and printed out a list of all of the banks within a 30 mile radius of my home, along with phone numbers. After weeding out listings that were repeats, or obviously had nothing to do with banks, I was left with close to 250 valid listings. I keep valid notes on all of them; date I last called, the date and time I visited (if they said they had halves) and the results of the visit. Also, if the person I speak to is rude, or just gives me the impression that they don't want to have anything to do with my request, I try to get their name and note it, so I can try to get somebody else when I next call that bank. I put an X through any listing that either says they won't sell coin to any non-customer, or I know for a fact that one of the tellers searches through the coins. I try to hit them all at least once a month; some I find I can visit more frequently than that and I have good success.

I finally finished looking through what I had brought back over Thanksgiving over two weeks. The total amount was $5636.00.

Bank wrapped rolls--4330.00
Customer wrapped----1120.00
Loose halves---------186.00

Ninety percent of the finds came from the customer and loose coins.

Ben Franklin's----2

1964's------------5

40%---------------50

A 1987-P & 1987-D

1971-S & 1990-S Proof

1982-P (no FG)-----2

2002-P & 2003-D

(2) rolls 1997-D Unc and (2) rolls Bi-Cent (P&D) Unc. These coins were turned into the bank in plastic holders.

A 1972 Magician's coin with British One Penny on the reverse

A 2000 rotated die--the eagles tail is pointing 90 degrees left (number 9 position). I can't find a seem in this coin where it would separate.

Also about 40 nice AU and M/S halves of various dates.

All in all, not very much for the amount. A lot looked like they have spent much time at the casino's.

Happy hunting to all!
