Been sick as a dog fighting an infection in my leg the last 2 weeks. But I still managed to get 4 boxes in that time. You may remember my last post I said I found a bank that could get bags. Nope. Their form has bags on it, but they use Brinks, Brinks dont do bags. Turns out their form was old. *sigh*
Soooooooo, I ran into nothing but marked coins in one of the Brinks boxes. This guy is good. Not a decent collectible coin in the 500. *bigger sigh* The other box my wife did. She didnt notice any marked coins, but nothing there. Then the two boxes for this week.....big fat hairy NADA. Not going to give up, but man this is frustrating sometimes.

So I've grown to have a love-hate relationship with the coin counting machines at my local TD banks- they will only accept $100 in halves before they need a new bag put in. I put up with this a few times, but just started going to the tellers again because the machine made coin dumps a long and arduous process. The teller I got today saw my 3 boxes and was having none of it. He offered to sell me his halves if I would just put up with the machine. Naturally, I accepted this deal- without looking at the halves first. What he sold me? A 1963 Franklin (AU), and a heavily blackened 1967 Kennedy. Well worth the 15 extra minutes, I think.

They can actually set that to 500. One of the TD branches I have used has theirs set that way and the other if I get the weasle boy manager, he sets it so he doesn't have to change the bags as much.
I am closing my account with TD though. I dont really like them, and PNC has a coin counter that has yet to not take everything I have thrown at it.

It's hard enough to inconspicuously dump 2 boxes of halves into a coin counter located in the lobby, but I am 3 for 3 in filling up the bag so a teller has to come out and switch. So instead of being Mr Low Profile I am now Mr Half Dollars.

After reading everyone else's luck, I decided to start searching boxes from the bank (S&S boxes). I have had a dismal run in the $500 boxes. I have got 8 boxes with nothing in them. I have had far, FAR better luck just walking in and grabbing whatever the bank has. Last week at a local SCB&T, I got 6 40% from the teller. She was irritated I asked for them. I am guess she was wanting to take them home. The next stop was a locally owned bank. I don't think this will happen again, but I asked for any halves they had. She brought me out 4 rolls. Looks like bank rolled stuff. Paid and went home. Out of the 4, 2 were full top to bottom of 1964's. The other 2 were nothing, but I was NOT complaining. Beginners luck in full swing!

Just got back from a trip to the west coast and I am glad to get back. I went to four different banks out there and they had a total of two halves for the group both bicentennial. Did get 16 40%'s out of two rolls from a little mountain town bank so it wasn't all bad.

Went in to pick up a box each of dimes and nickels from the usual bank this morning, and overhear one of the tellers balancing her drawer. "What are these? 50 cents or half a dollar?" followed by laughter and jokes about not having their coffee yet. She plunks them down on the counter and I hear an enticing sound... "Hey, I'll buy those off of ya..." "Great, I hate these things." Turns out the only $1s I had were 2011 Sacagaweas, so she probably wasn't any happier with those, but I did walk away with a 40%er.

No silver in 4 boxes, but I finished 3 sets of circulation folders simultaneously- found 3 1987-D's in one roll about halfway through my third box. Curiously, there were also two 1972 proofs and a 2011 proof in that same box.

I finally broke my Brinks box skunk streak. First box today was a skunk. Second box greeted me with a 67 peeking at me from the end of a roll. I pulled 3 40%, two Bens (1952D's) and a 1944 Walker from that box. Those were my first 90% halves found roll searching. I still haven't come across a 1964.

I had the same thing happen to me no 1964. Finally one in my last box. My thoughts are 1964 was the last year for 90 percent and first year for Kennedy half. Many were just kept. I have S bank rolls in the original wrappers my father got and kept. Also a roll of 1965 but after that he really lost the need to get the rolls. I think it had to do with the lesser amount of silver. Back then we kept every 90 percent. Just a thought
