Hey all, Been reading through the post, and WOW some great finds. I've worked at a bank for over 6 years. The first 2 yrs as a teller. It is a smaller bank so we had to roll our own coin. Probably rolled over 300 bags of quaters in that time and found around 275. But whats nice now is I can order halves and dont get any hassel.
Anyway this is a half dollar post, so I'll get to my question. When you are all finding this silver are you keeping it or are you selling it? As a coin collector I am really hoping that a lot of these finds are not ending up getting melted down. I am just curious.

I have always kept my finds and dont ever plan on selling. This hobby is more about collecting IMHO. I honestly and truly think that if you broke it down, you would not come close to breaking even CRHing. Time, Gas, and occasional miscount are killers if someone was wanting to make money at doing this. I have kept every single coin I have found since I was about 10 yrs old. First find was in Gramps garden, 1926 Mercury dime.

Just finished off my first 500 box. aside from silver not sure what to hold on to if at all. 1 - 1964 1 - 1965 1 - 1967 2 - 1968d excuse my bad photos, still looking for micro device. 3 - 1971 with bullet holes 1 - 1972s cameo? proof 1 - 1987p MS60+ I would think, mirror finish(for rollhunter) 3 rolls of 1971-2010 uncirculated. 3 rolls of 1976 uncirculated. 9 rolls mixed AU55+

Nothing for me this week, have too much to dump before I can start hunting again. Went to TD yesterday and got a handful of foreign coins from the magnet, have almost an entire solo cup filled now. My friend went to a TD by him to dump, he reaches for the magnet, and pulled off about 60 steel cents. Nothing in good shape, but dangggggg...gotta love magnet finds.

Congrats on a good box. The 72' is a CuNi S proof. Appears to be in AU/MS condition, but I can't tell if there are fingerprints. 95% of the ones I find have fingerprint marks on them. The 87' P is very nice - appears AU/MS to me. You probably picked it out the first time through the wash (deposited, sent to fed, rolled and then you got it from a roll). Personally, I would keep both of these. As for the coins with bullet holes and the other CuNi halves, I would dump them myself. Something tells me that if you get more boxes, you will get more uncirculated CuNi halves than you can imagine. If you keep them all, you will quickly have no more money to hunt.

Quote: After reading everyone else's luck, I decided to start searching boxes from the bank (S&S boxes). I have had a dismal run in the $500 boxes. I have got 8 boxes with nothing in them. I have had far, FAR better luck just walking in and grabbing whatever the bank has. Last week at a local SCB&T, I got 6 40% from the teller. She was irritated I asked for them. I am guess she was wanting to take them home.
The next stop was a locally owned bank. I don't think this will happen again, but I asked for any halves they had. She brought me out 4 rolls. Looks like bank rolled stuff. Paid and went home. Out of the 4, 2 were full top to bottom of 1964's. The other 2 were nothing, but I was NOT complaining.
Beginners luck in full swing! Well done. You paid your dues on those 8 boxes, too, so you're learning quick. If you can, see if you can get a box from another bank, give that skunk bank a rest for a month or so, then come back to it. Sometimes it pays to give these bad cycles a little time to heal up. Good luck.

Nice boxes Chuck. Rough week so far for me, I have done 6 this week so far and found 5 (a 43'S, 64'P and 3 40%'s). One more box today, but not a good week unless it is a monster.

To me a box with any silver is a good box. After all basically silver at face value!
