The look I don't like is the "here comes that guy with a bunch of half dollars again" that I get at my dump bank.

Quote: rockdude: "I got some clean looking 2001-D's the other day." My credit union (in Denver) still has 4½ bank boxes of BU 2001-D JFK's! I have kept one BU roll of those, because 2001-D's are the last 'business strike' (general circulation issue) JFK's.

5x 40% & 1x 90% JFK in todays box. It had been a long dry spell there.

4 boxes last week and DRUM ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
2 40%'s and they were out of the first box. So then I pass by a little bank in a not so nice part of town and decide to ask for halves. The lady says they only have 8.50 worth and she shows me an envelope that they are in and as she shakes them there is that all too familiar sound of SILVER clanking around. I tell her that I'll take them of her hands. I always make up a story that my daughter is doing a history project and needs half dollars. I get in the truck and open it up and out of 17 halves, 8 are 64's and 4 are 66's!
So I get 12 sivers out of 17 from loose change and 2 silvers out of 4000 bank rolls...
I also just opened an account at a credit union where they have a free coin counter. Dumped $4500 dollars worth of halves and no one batted an eye

Had a box today, no silver.
Went on a gut feeling to try another bank, which had $370 worth. All the rolls were written in old-man-handwriting stating, "No silver". When I saw that I was like, "Oh %*$& no! I'm going through someone's castoffs." Either the person didn't care or didn't realize there was silver still in the rolls. I ended up with 21 40%.
Also, had a local Publix hold some halves and out of $10 worth, there were 6 40%.
No matter how many times you've been skunked, keep trying and always go on a gut feeling to stop at a bank when you're driving around the city.

Searched $130 today from a People's United Bank, scored 4 40%. Biggest find was a few weeks ago (at another People's) of 16 dollars in loose halves - scored a Walker, 2 Franklins, a 64, and 8 40%. Scored another Walker and 64 later in the month (also from a small amount of loose halves.)
It seems far easier to find silver (and independently, $2 US notes) in small batches. Should I even bother searching the direct-from-armored car machine rolls? They are all casino-used coins and never have anything worthwhile.

You guys are really ambitious. Thank for all the hard work. Keep the information coming. I've just about given up half dollar roll searching. Too hard to find in my bank and then usually someone else's rejects.

It is getting a little light here in LA - went through a batch and only got 6 40% and 1 90% - kind of rough.
Does any one CRH in Los Angeles, Long Beach or the area? I keep finding someones dumps in the bank boxes with little hearts on them in black sharpie (at least it looks like a heart)Perhaps I should start marking my halves - I may be reserching the same halves over and over - at least I am not getting skunked - that's the positive!
Anyway, keep it up, and you never know what you are giong to happen on out there. I find some interesting customer wrapped rolls, and the percentage of silver is MUCH greater, by about a factor of 10.
Happy Hunting!

I have a box waiting for me at the credit Union. I hate that I can't pick it up for a few weeks yet. Oh the joys of working offshore for a living...
