In 2008 I had requested a local bank to order 2 boxes ($1000 total)of half dollars every week. Sometimes they failed to order. Most of the time they did get them. You need to find out who is the vault manager for the bank and request that they order them. They order on Wednesday and get them in the following Wednesday. I usually pick them up on Friday. Sometimes I even have a second bank to order them as well. The two different banks have different carriers that deliver them. One is Brinks, not sure who the other uses. I go through them and take them back to a different bank and place them in a coin counter that automatically deposits the money into checking. Last year I looked through 94,920 half dollars. I did receive a few solid date boxes from one bank but not the other. These included 1980, 1994 and 1995 all P's. Almost always the halves are just mixed dates. I found a total of 599 silver half dollars in 2008. 431 of these were 40% silver. A total of 167 90% silver halves was also found. These were 69 90% Kennedy halves, 63 Walking Liberty and 35 Franklin halves. I did not keep count of the individual date and mint marks, but can list the harder to find halves in this area, (east of the Mississippi). The hardest to find are probably in this order. 1985 P, 1978 D, 1982 D, 1991 D, 1977 D. 1979 D, 1992 D, 1993 D. An interesting note on going through half dollars is to just keep looking. I am not sure how these are stored before the half dollars get to the bank, but I assume that they are stored in a large quantity. You can tell a different group of half dollars when you hit one the boxes. Sometimes the wrappers change colors, sometimes the multiple boxes will contain no coins after a certain date such as 1988. Some boxes will contaim no silver for weeks at a time. It appears that the draw changes about every $10,000.

I go through about the same amount, but I started halfway through the year. I did not keep track of the JFKs. I estimate those at 200 40% and 80 90%, but in approx 50,000 halves, I found 36 Franklins, 12 Walkers, 3 foriegn coins and inside one of the rolls, a free really mashed up dime.

I started getting 4 boxes each week starting this year. I searched the four I got yesterday and boxes A,B,& D had nada.
Box C however had the following:
(1) 1937 Walker (1) 1944 Walker (1) 1945 Walker (1) 1947 Walker (10) 1964 JFK (9) 1966 JFK (17) 1967 JFK (19) 1968 JFK (7) 1969 JFK
The 8 previous boxes yielded only (2) 40%'s and I was about to give up searching but after this box I plan on going to (8) boxes a week!

Just tried my luck out at rolls for first time. was at my credit union that I do my banking at, asked the teller first if they had any Ike's, he says yes and proceeds to show me new dollars. tried to explain to him he had no clue. I then ask about halve dollar rolls and he says he thinks they might in back and asks how many. I tell him three rolls. rolls were customer rolled. check them at home 1st roll no silver, 2nd roll bingo three 64 and two 67. third roll Nada. also 8 bicentennials in all 3. going back Monday to get more.

Well I just got back from the bank- teller had $334.50 in customer wrapped halves. While she was getting them together I noticed a big black "X" on the rolls. Then, after I withdrew the money from my account and had the halves in possession, the bombshell. She said she already searched them for silver, and there wasn't any, BUT said she did see a lot of brand new 2005 in there- which, if true, would be awesome. She was only interested in the silver. I will look at the group tonight to see and report back here. So I guess I have to X this branch off my list....am perhaps make them "dump" branch

I went through a box yesterday. No silver. Only a 2004 that someone drew on with a marker.

I assume everyone has seen this. If not check it out: https://goccf.com/t/41722I thought I was doing good today until I saw that. I found 16 40%'rs today in about $110 of customer wrapped half dollars.
