The ones hunting for profit are mostly just looking for silver, so there's no need to mark them. They mostly just rim check them anyway.
The people who mark them are the ones who are looking for variations, correct? They mark the coin so they don't have to re-examine it.
So wouldn't it be more the other way around?

I have found some really nice NIFC Kennedys that have marker scribbled all over it. But I can't believe all the Franklins and Libertys I found mixed in with all of the marked coins. This guy must of dumped a few thousand dollars for me to get so many. I just found it funny that in one roll alone, I found 2 Franklins 2 Libertys and 16 marked kennedys. Edited by LTMets44

reason for that is those old ones getting mixed in with the guys dump, thats all. but it does make it that much more encouraging when you find the old ones mixed in with all the marked... I usually get depressed when I see so many marked coins, thinking I will never find anything! then BAM.. all luck

Just as a side note..all the chrome-plated coins I have inspected in the past had rims plated also...this 77D does not.

Just finished my first box of half's as well as another $200 in rolls I was able to collect from another bank and nothing! I guess there is always next week.

I got my two boxes today, and I got a total of 1 64, and 7 40%s. Not bad, but most of the coins looked like they were burned and heavily circulated. It was the same thing for both boxes.
Also, I've heard that people buy bags of half dollars. Which banks allow that? I went to a TD bank, but they said that they have to ship it out per contract. Any thoughts/ recommendations?

Jackpot today! Just 45.50 in customer wrapped/loose, but it was loaded with silver.
29! 40%, 1 1953D Franklin, 1 1986 Liberty Commemorative (not in very nice condition), 3 Proofs (68S, 71S, 79S), 1 NIFC (03D).
My total 40% silver for the year is higher than my total for last year and I searched about $300 less. This one lot makes up for how dry it's been most of the year!
Keep on searching!

I went to a large branch of the Bank I have used for years today at lunch and discovered that they had a $500 box of half's that have been there for some time. I went ahead and picked it up and talked with a personal banker there and they set me up with a standing weekly order of two boxes every week. I am so excited right now to get home and search this box that I got today that I can barley stand it.
Is there any advice any of you seasoned bank roll hunters can give me that might help me avoid some mistakes that might cost me money if I am not careful?

Those 77d halves don't look right, especially the hair. It may be the "pepper" on them.

I went to a Capital One and the teller had only one half dollar. I ended up taking it (without asking the year on it) and it was a 1969  Then I went to Bank of America to cash in some coins. I had a bunch of clad halves that I had previously searched. I showed the 40% silver half to the teller; she said she had some of those in her drawer. I scored: 1966 x2 1967 x3 and 1964 x5   |

OK, so here is the update. Last week we found 36 40% and 3 64s. That was from 5 boxes. Monday VACookey grabbed some rolls and a box from banks we dont normally hit. 3 64 and 5 40% Today, we grabbed 4 boxes and we got a 45D Walker, a 50 Frankie, 4 64s 25 40% (wife found those). Son found a nice 64, 4 40% and the nicest circulated proof we have found yet, an 88. I came in last with 2 64s and 2 40%. Altogether a nice haul for the week...  Stuff from this week. The 5 64s to the right are keepers.  Awesome cameo for a circ eh? ilikeikes, those are plated. When they are really circulated the edges lose the plating quicker IME. Edited by smokeriderdon
