Oh, I mark coins. I am NOT an idiot and totally a collector. As I have said a million times before, sharpie marks come right off with acetone. Which does NOT harm the coins in any way. If I find my coins again, that lets me know that bank is getting the stuff I have already gone through and I am likely to find very little there. And when others mark coins, it gives me a heads up that this stuff is going to be thin in all likelyhood. And in the very rare case (only twice) that someone has marked a coin that was worth keeping, I dipped them in acetone and poof, gone. So, I'm not really pleased with being called an idiot for something that does no harm at all.

Some nice finds all! I am going to have to get a box of halves again. It's been a long time since I've done a box.

smokeriderdon, You guys are tearing up the halves! Wow! I usually get frustrated with halves, but your recent finds are really making me wanna pick up a box. That is the best looking proof I have ever seen pulled from circulation.

Don-
You're right, idiot is unfair, and I've changed it.
As someone who has seen some comics go from the bargain bin to $100+, there's no telling when someone will make a new discovery or an old one will become popular.
Ink may come off with acetone, but it also protects the coin, so it may leave a reverse stain. And what if someone tries erasing it instead of using acetone?

fredd, while I understand your point about the comics, it doesn't apply to marking coins.
As I alluded to, most of the time coins that are marked arent of quality.
As for the what if stuff...what if worms had machine guns? birds wouldnt mess with them. I hate what if questions.

I've haven't coin roll hunted since I was in grade school, but I kept reading this stuff and thought how amazing it was that people were still finding old coins, so I gave it a shot. Got 2 boxes that came from Brink's. Box 1 1968 D - only reason this wasn't found by someone else was because it was black and you couldn't see the silver. 1974 Proof Box 2 1977 Proof with a golden tone 2003 - D (2) 2004 - D 2011 - D Going to get a magnifying glass today and check some 74 - Ds for DDO. Ordered another 2 boxes when I picked these up. I'll try a few more, but would be nice to find some 64 or older.

Thanks Smoker..yes, there is just no other explanation..the plated stickout like a sore thumb..50% of my box was Gem BU 2001-D's!.I did find 2 proofs(1983 & 1991), 1-40%, 2 nice heavily-clashed 71-D, and this authentic "light Strike" 2001--the pics don't show the true "flatness" of the strike(when rotated, you really see the diff...letters and date about 1/4-1/2 height of normal full strike)--I love this coin, and, since it is near=perfect grade,(I'm thinking MS67-8) sending to anacs....the planchet striations add to the incredible luster. ---------Side Note: I am investigating my theory that in the Kennedy half series in 1971, as happened with Eisenhower dollars, left over Proof Planchets were recycled, and struck with re-worked proof dies, leaving a very distinguishible coin(chapter 21 in the new Ike book), with NO annealing chatter, heavy die wear with coins in LDS-VLDS ONLY, brilliant, proof-like reflectivity on all high-relief surfaces, both sides...will post in another thread, later, what I have come across(you have to be a bit nutty to be into these things)

was making a deposit at a Capitol One bank on the North side of Houston that I have never gone to, asked the teller if she had any halves, she said she had a bunch she wanted to get rid of, it was $129 worth in the self sealing customer service envelopes. I took them and found:
(3)-1964 90% (16)67-69 40&ers one 2010, not bad, better than my last two boxes!

Please Tell Me What I have!
Went to the bank today at lunch to pick up a box of dimes, I asked the teller if she had any half's and she said yes $40 worth so I got them.
These are bank rolled in the blue and white US Mint wrappers. They appear to be uncirculated and have the goldish color tone to them. Two rolls are from 2001 and two from 2006. What are these and are they worth anything above face value?
Thanks
BB

Went to the same bank where I got a solid roll of silver several weeks ago. I go there every week and they never have any. Just so happens, a customer brought in 3 rolls today. I got a 64 and a 68 out of it! YAY!
Plus a stack of star notes and old face bills that one of my banks holds for me. So yes, it's a good Christmas so far!

Monk, people like you make me sick... or jealous. One of the two.
Update: I grabbed 5 grand in halves hoping I'd get something... ALL Skunks.
My skunk streak is at $35,500 right now, I picked up a box from a different branch, we'll see what happens.
Monk: 25 90s (no Kennedys, Ptew!) lol
