So, I am a little rusty... aside from keeping anything 1964-1970, and the occassional Franklin, do you guys have anything special I should keep my eye out for when searching through my boxes? Should I get out my Loupe, and be looking for mint marks? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Back Eyeluvcoins The 64-70 is for Kennedy half dollars but don't for walkers and Franklin s as well, basically any half dollar from 1970 and older. Also keep an eye out for "S" mint mark proofs and some people save NIFC (Not Intended for Circulation) half dollars 2002-present. I personally save all proofs and NIFC's I find that are in good condition. Good Luck and happy hunting!

I started my numismatic craze, 4 years ago (2008), then left it..... Now, I am back with a vengeance. I am on page #619 of this forum's posts. I am getting the hang of it again. Thanks for your advice, bbradford71. I'm probably the only woman here with this passion !

Welcome back, Eyeluvcoins! Quote:On the Ike dollars check to see which type it is (Type 1 Type 2 or Type3) the type 1 and type 2's are worth some money. what are the types? never heard of that. Also, found my first (beat up) proof, 1972 S: Also, have a cool bank story to tell, will post later.

I just finished up doing 26 boxes in the last few days I found 2, 40% 4 proofs and 1 1987 A drastic difference from what I was finding last month. I'm going to change to a bank with a different courier. I think the mistake I made was dumping the coins back at the same bank I was getting the boxes from. One teller told me you are just recirculating the halves you already looked thru. The other possibility is that it is drying up in this area I see a lot of marks on the coins I never saw before.

Here's a silly question. Why do so many of these 1985s look so brand new, and the edges still have sharp reeds? Is it just a coincidence that I'm running into a lot of these?
