Thanks owass yea youre right about that feeling finding a silver edge after 11 bad boxes actually jumped for joy haha. Wrestling I wonder what you would do if you finally find one haha
buying coins is never a bad idea best and fastest way to get what we want/need just costs more haha!

Total skunk box! UGH. I think I'm just gonna get two boxes of dimes in place of my box of halves. They're easier to search becuase they come in clear wrappers.... and I usually get at least one silver per box!

About two weeks ago a local teller I know showed me a 2004 American Eagle that had been deposited
from a child's piggy bank.
She was not giving it up seeing how her husband collected. So, it may not be too unconceivable that
such strokes of luck do happen now and then.

thats good to know Trapper, Iv done 3 brinks so far, all skunks silver wise. Iv finaily got some boxes set up, got 2 next week, and every week there after, then 2 weeks from now got another weekly order starting for 2 boxes all brinks.so iv got 4 a week going soon. i found a local bank that uses loomis, the yellow and white, thinking if I got no silver from the brinks in 3 weeks, gonna go there, and set up an account, and start working that angle, actualy I'm sure Ill set it up anyway.  |

Well, I have a new bank, I opened the account w/the condition that they would order boxes for me. Got the first one today, a flat box w/holes on one side, yellow & white NF String wrappers. My wife picked it up for me. I left for work @ 7:am, got home @ 5:30 pm & was @ the 2nd job by 6:00 pm, got home around 10:30. of course I couldn't help myself...  So, here I am & 11:45, I've opened 4 rolls & my brain hurts, I made the mistake of buying 2 books and I'm locked up over these coins.....Mental overload on all the different things to look for..... Before I drive myself around the bend, what is it reasonable to look for? S mint marks, '64 back, ''65 to ''70 (possibly '71?), '87, 2002 & up, '74 dd's. That's enough to cause an overload! am I on the right track? Anything else important? I have 2 books, neither tells how to grade '64 or newer, any idea where to get that info? Sorry for all the NOOB questions, I have been searching pocket change and occasional rolls for years but never really knew what to look for. Finding Coincommunity has been a blessing., C.K. Personally, I quickly look through all of them, I take out all 70 or before, since they are silver. I give a quick glance to '71s, I take out all 87, 2002+, S mint marks and anything the very obviously catches my eye. I did my first box two weeks ago, and it all went fast for me.

CoinKat, Make it simple to start. This is a hobby and should be fun. Look for 1970 and older, S mints, and 1987. Don't worry about looking at the mint marks on all coins. If they are S mint (proof) it will be nice looking, even from the edge (and if it's not, probably not worth keeping. As you look through a couple boxes and find a couple examples of everything, it will be second nature to spot the one's I've referenced. The 2002 and newer aren't worth that much so it's not like you need to worry about them slipping through. Basically, if you see a really nice coin and it's S mint, 2002 and newer, or 1987, pull it out. The rest of the coins should just be checked for silver. Hope this helps.

Good box yesterday:
3 x %40 (all enders)
1 x %90 1964 (in one of the 3 ender rolls)
1 x %90 1959D Franklin!
30+ NIFC 2002 - 2009
Almost a full rolls worth of 2009D. I hung onto those in hopes of filling a roll, just because. Not sure if thats really worth it, but seemed like a cool idea.

Had a client make an unusual deposit at the bank today, I was out front when he came in so I asked about it. He was cashing in his "collection" so to speak but he plainly said he was more of a pack rat than a collector. He had several things he knew were worth money and he took those to the local coin shop (1899 Morgan and some other odds and ends). He brought us a stack of old bills mostly silver certificates and $2 bills, some Presidential dollars and some halves. I picked through and found the good stuff, most of the $2 bills were recent and all the silver certificates were in terrible condition (I pulled the oldest one just cause). Of the coins he had about $10 in halves of which I pulled two 64s a 66 and 68. Overall it was pretty neat to look through and I certainly dont see this kind of stuff everyday.  |

I am really, really kicking myself after this week's box and my decision at the bank today. At the bank, I decided to stop my weekly order of one box of halves because I was getting absolutely sick of the lack of silver and interesting finds. I literally spend about 45 minutes to an hour on each box, then it takes time to spread my dumps all over every week. I find it really annoying to go into the bank and go through all the hassle of dumping coins that I didn't even find worthwhile to search. I've done this since around October... it was getting old being skunked over and over. So I canceled my weekly order.
I come home and figure I'll start looking through the last box of halves I was going to order for a few weeks/months. About 6 rolls in, I found TWO 1964s. A few rolls later, I found a couple 1964s and a couple 1968Ds. Here's my total haul from this box:
1964 - 7x
1965 - 1x
1968D - 9x
Proofs:
1998S
2004S
2006S
A handful of NIFCs.
I might take a week off and start up the following week. I could also go to another branch in my area and ask them to order boxes for me. Maybe I struck the silver vein in my area. Though, it could be a once in a blue moon kinda thing, as the coins look to be in very good condition and maybe someone dumped a stash and I'd be back to my dozen box skunk streak.
Needless to say, I regret cancelling my order. A piece of advice if you're on a skunk streak... ride it out!

I want to send my banker a letter for her boss saying how well she has treated me and how professorial she has treated me.
